I remember being a child in the 60’s and 70’s.
I remember my mom driving me around in the car with the Beatles’ “Penny Lane” and Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody to Love” playing on the AM radio.
I remember being in the back seat but I wasn’t in a child’s seat. We didn’t have child safety seats back then. She was probably smoking a cigarette, too, while she drove me around.
I remember buying penny candy (Bazooka Joe bubble gum, with a comic strip and fortune inside, candy necklaces, Necko wafers, Pixie Stix, wax lips, harmonicas, etc.).
I remember learning about Martin Luther King in 3rd grade of elementary school, in black and white films where the projector had to be wheeled in to the classroom.
I remember watching us land on the moon in my 3rd grade library too.
I remember my mother’s shock (and my grandparents’, and my dad’s) over Nixon and Watergate.
I remember Kent State and Neil Young singing “Four dead in Ohio….”
I remember Jimmy Carter and gas lines (even and odd license plate numbers) and I remember Billy Beer and Jimmy’s mama on TV.
I remember Dick Cavett, Rhoda, Maude, Mary Hartman Mary Hartman, and Soap.
I remember John Lennon and Yoko being ridiculed.
I remember the Jackson 5 versus the Osmonds.
I remember Billy Preston and George Harrison singing for Bangladesh.
I remember hostage crises, Olympics, marches, inflation, I remember it all.
I remember Reagan, I remember surpluses, I remember Iran-Contra deals, and Ollie North.
I remember Clinton, and Gennifer Flowers, and Hillary’s trading on cattle futures, and the Rose Law Firm billings.
I remember Whitewater Gate, Travel Gate, and Monica Lewinsky too.
I remember McCain trying to beat that Bush boy, back in 2000 too.
I survived it all, to live thus far.
And I can honestly say, today is the coolest time for us all, by far. Because we have a chance to either adopt major change, or blow it all away by staying where we were.
I prefer change…don’t you?

I forgot about those candy cigarettes! In pink and light green and purple, LOL!! They came in a real-looking ciggie pack, too!!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who wants change for the better.
