I know this is the wrong thread...sorry. But, I thought I could get your attention here.
Black Crowes and Blind Melon are both playing in a few hours at the same time in my city. My husband and I are going to go to one of them....but, which one? I am a big fan of both. (scared to see BM without Shannon (but never though I would see them live) and am quite unfamiliar with any new BC music (but heard that they are good live). Please help : ) Thank You!

If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this

I would choose Blind Melon over The Black Crowes personally. I saw BM back in 12/07 and they blew me away.

Is it really Blind Melon without Shannon?

Each of you take one and meet up later to compare notes for the next time around.

My choice would be BLIND Melon. Crows might be too southern rockish for me today.

I know...we should. My husband is leaving it up to me. I know he is a bigger Black Crowes fan than Blind Melon. But, I am a bigger Blind Melon fan. I picked up the new BM CD recently. It is good...but, not the same. But, just to hear some of the old songs live may be worth it. 2 and a half hours to decide.....

  • Easy one - go see the Crowes. I haven't seen them disappoint yet, in any lineup. Plus, when they're full-on they can easily out-do Pearl Jam in set uniqueness factor.

If you like both bands, I'd go see the one that still has its core - Chris and Rich with the Crowes - rather than a group struggling to find its way more than a decade after losing theirs. (cheers to them for giving it another go, but that's my take)

If you go see the Crowes, you're gonna have to see DMB too- this should end the debate right here

  • Go see the Crowes. Great energy and a fun show. Watch the drummer, Steve Gorman, he is incredible..

Seen the Crowes They were Awesome live. I would support the Husband on this one. You make him happy and that is reason enough to choose that side, as close as it now stands.

Thank you for your help everyone!
I went with the Black Crowes.

If it would have been Blind Melon with Shannon...there would have been no decision (one of my favorite bands). I am still trying to embrace the new singer though...I just loved Shannon too much, I guess. I am trying.

The Black Crowes were really good. I did not realize that they were such a jam band. They played a 20 minute rendition of Thorn In My Pride. The new album sounded good as well. They played Forever Young (Dylan) also. I am so used to Eddie's version lately, but it was good. Ended the show with Baby Don't You Do It (Marvin Gaye song that was frequently covered by The Band). The show was about 2 hours and 40 minutes.

So, I am not sure if my decision was the right one. But, It was a good time. Thanks for your help again. And again I am sorry for posting this on The Porch. Now...back to PJ.

Yeah...it was a long one. I was not familiar with a lot of the songs. I guess I may be considered a bandwagon fan...wanted some of the old stuff..got She Talks To Angels and Thorn in My Pride, and that was it....but, even so..it was a really good show. They are all very talented musicians. The acoustics in the place were terrible and I really did not like the opening band ...but, aside from that it was really enjoyable.
