All Nighter in the Senate is Underway

Here in Westchester NY, it's on Channel 66, aka CSPAN2.

Watching since 5 pm, I have to say this is more interesting than I thought it would be. The Dems are very impassioned, the Repubs are sticking to their party statements, and the back and forth arguments make it feel somewhat like a tennis match.

  • "In a Ron Paul administration, we would also repeal the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act, restore habeas corpus and stop the spying on Americans. No more eavesdropping on our emails and bank accounts, our phone calls, home and businesses. No national ID -- just the bracing freedom of the Constitution."

"It is all within our grasp, the restoration of the republic and our sovereignty—no UN, no North American Union, no Nafta, no WTO, no World Bank, no IMF. Just federalism, free enterprise, peace, prosperity, and the kind of future we all want for our families, ourselves, and our fellow Americans."

    Fucking eh!

back to the TV set to watch some more "All In the Senate".

Meat Head is still trying to provoke some intelligent discussion, and Archie Bunker is still ranting.

I have to say, though: So far, the Dems are doing a great job, and the Repubs are...well, Repubs.

Hagel being the exception. Wow, was his oratory excellent tonight!!

I see Vitter got out of his diaper and away from his whores long enough to make sure to vote to keep the war running full throttle. i wish he would wear his diaper and have his whores and his peggy bundy wife spank him while he preaches to us about the sanctity of marriage. instead we just get to see him vote for the morals of the bush administration and their killing machine. republicans are a real treat.

making history tonight, I will leave you all to your Pit, and to all a good night.

Let it not be said that the Dems in Congress have given up the good fight.....but let it be said that no one on this miserable message board cared enough to listen.

not just the pit... NOBODY is paying any attention... why is this only being carried on c-span 2???? this should be on all the networks and every 24 hour cable news station. furthurmore the dems should take out as many ads as the "Head On" people continuously reminding the entire nation that the republicans demand we continue this war.... this is the republicans war.... they should rub it in the repubs face publicly every second of every day. they should take out ads saying "3 more soldiers died in iraq today because Tom Coburn wants it that way" and they should name a different monter asshole in every ad... and run these ads 100 times every day until the republicans HAVE to stop sucking of dick cheney and george bush and put an end to this war.

Eh, maybe people are tired of Congress crying wolf. There will probably be no significant legislation in 2007. None. But they sure can talk a lot.

hey i agree congerss has no guts. they should have sent that timetable on the emergency spending bill to your buddy george bush and told him that is all he is getting and they will NEVER send him another one EVER... then they should have taken EVERY available second of television and radio time to tell the american public "we have approved the funding for our soldiers...your president refuses to give them the funds" but they have no guts... because they know even if they cut off the funds for this war it will not end. i am sick to death of talking heads on t.v. telling the american public that congress has the power of the purse to end the war when we all KNOW george bush will not bring these soldiers home NO MATTER WHAT. he would literally have them fight hungry, naked, and weaponless than ignore the voices in his head he mistakes for god telling him to continue with his crusade. he is INSANE and every single senator that backs his insanity should be outed and publicly ridiculed until EVERYONE understands whose war this is and who is to blame. oh... and i have friends that are in Iraq being shot at but you dont have the guts to do it yourself. at some point all the chickenhawks who think this war is so important that OTHER PEOPLE should kill and die for it while they cheerlead should be publicly mocked as well.

I didn't care enough to watch or listen for two reason

    1) I want this war to end and I want the troops brought home now, so nothing that I would have heard would be anything new or enlightening to me.

    2) No matter what they spent all night saying, they won't do ANYTHING... the democratic leadership has been beating their chests and huffing and puffing for the last 7 months about ending the war, and time and time again they have done NOTHING about it... I am tired of hearing them bitch and whine about it.

Bush has blocked their efforts and they don't have enough votes to override him, so status quo for now.

They still have/had the option to cut off funding... all they had to do was not offer a military war funding bill or to keep offering the one with time tables for withdrawal.

Maybe it's better politically to let W's war last for another year and a half so that the Repubs have virtually no shot in '08.

I'm guilty of this. I saw this thread last night. Checked all major news channels (except CSPAN) and couldn't find any coverage whatsoever. So I went to bed.

Now that's a great idea. It really is. Anyone with billboard space or a loud voice should be using this strategy to put pressure on congress to do something....now.

What's better politically shouldn't fucking matter. How about what's better morally?

Plus, another terrorist attack on the U.S. is gonna give Bush everything he's ever wanted and more. Can't people see that recent reports on al qaeda are just to justify another attack?
