For the soldiers:

I am not all that religious, but my little sister asked me to help her write a prayer for our 19-year-old nephew, Johnny, who is being deployed to Iraq in two months. She asked me to help her write a prayer that we can weave around him to keep him safe. No easy thing to to.
So for John, and for his mother, and for every young soldier going over there, we offer this. If you all think it doesn't belong here on the train, let me know. But me, I think it should be read to everyone.
Heavenly Father, thank You for this day. Thank You for all of our blessings. We come to You respectfully to ask that You watch over Johnny
during these uncertain and dangerous times while he is deployed in Iraq. Please watch over him and protect him. Please keep him from harm's way. Should he encounter anything that disturbs him, should he see ugliness that is difficult for him to accept, please bring him comfort and peace of mind. Please give Johnny courage to do his job. Give him a servant's heart, so that he can bravely support and protect his fellow troops. When he feels disturbed by the things he encounters, when he misses his loved ones and feels far away and anxious, give him reminders of his family and friends, and let him know that we love and support him and that he is in our hearts and thoughts daily. Give Johnny a clear head and strong resolve, so that he can recognize and react to a true threat when facing the enemy. Give him the tunnel vision needed for him to be focused at this tough job at hand -- and to realize there is a light at the end of this tunnel.
Give his mother,
, comfort from day to day. Give
an expectant heart. Help her fall not into depression, but instead to know beyond doubt that her son is coming home, safe and whole. Help her to prepare for that day when his deployment ends and he is back on American soil, a brave and valiant soldier who has courageously served his country and faced the enemy, and yet needs her comfort and understanding as he recovers from active duty and all that he has seen and been through.
Please bring peace and comfort to his family and friends, and let them know you are with Johnny every moment of every day. Please bring comfort to all military families and hear our prayers that this war will end soon. Please judge us not for our acts of war and aggression, but know that we all would much rather have peace.
Please bring our troops home and bring an end to this war. Please bring us peace. In Jesus name, Amen.

he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
where in iraq is he being deployed to?
wish him all the luck in the world.
May they come through for him and all the other men and women risking themselves in Iraq. I'll be praying for them all. Watch this Michael Franti video and know it's Time To Go Home.
Peace
