Why does the federal government make this practice a federal crime and punish those involved with stiff penalties. After all it is the true fan who gets burned by scalpers.

because they can't regulate it. the scalper gets what the fan is willing to pay and big business gets nothing. that's why.

Because that would be taking away a value job oppurtunity for many a shit bag.

For once, I agree. Just like drugs, prostitution or anything else.

Hmm... why don't they have legalised scalping. Because while I DESPISE touts and would rather not give them a ticket, they do serve a purpose. If you hae a spare ticket on the day of the event and don't have time to find someone to buy it, it's easy to just give it to a tout... also if you NEED a ticket you can ofetn get one from a tout... BUT I think promoters should allow people to sell back their tickets if they can't go :o and that way, if there's a box somewhere beside the venue, you can return your unneeded ticket and get a refund, someone can be lucky enough to go to the box and BUY that ticket for maybe a couple euro extra (to cover the cost of HAVING the box).

Yeah right, they could deal with more important issues but Joe Average in blue doesnt, let them go to concerts, Ebay and shit and bust these mofo's. I hate how tickets end up 10 x the regular value at the expense of music lovers.

  • the people on ebay join the fan clubs, pre-order the tickets, have two or three friends bid on them to get the price up a little, and sell to a sucker fan who didn't join.

    we make the choice, though,...

I do not think ticket scalping should be illegal.

    what do ya mean?

I've bought a ticket from a scalper in Dublin once - no choice at all. Day OF the concert and I only had one ticket but I really wanted to go, but not on my own so my friend got one. It wasn't too bad of an experience at all. I've never sold to a scalper though cos they always seem to be offering shit money.

the ones selling extra tickets and like 1 that didnt show up arent the ones that are being arrested..

the guys with those signs that say i need tickets or a group of fast talking thugs are the guys who go to jail..the ones that somehow end up with 40 tickets in different areas so that when you buy 2 tickets they arent close to each other..

lol who ever made the big business comment is crazy..

no one is out to get you :)

ok lets say you have an orange stand.
some guy buys 20 oranges off you and stands 20 feet away and yells at people and talks fast and and scams your customers into buying oranges from him for more money.

    same thing. larger scale.

yes, but I'm saying they still serve a purpose... if I have a ticket that I need to get rid of really quickly, they're handy and there. Or if I need to buy one close to start of concert, they're also handy.

than some old lady ends up shot cuz a dude sweet talked her into buying yesterdays ticket.

oh...they will also stand in front of your car until the police get near and chase them off.

    there favorite phrase

''comon comon comon comon comon comon whatcha want whatcha want ..common 1st row...1st row...whatcha want'' :) this phrase is said in a time span of half a ssecond..
  • how does big business win in scalping?

They don't, you could say that actually they get screwed in a sense. If some one is willing to pay that much from a scalper, who is to say someone wouldn't pay that from the original seller.

The price is determined by what the market is willing to bear and in the case of scaplers selling tickets, they have a rare commodity that others are willing to pay much more than face value for. Supply and demand, that is all it is.

WRONG. they dont get screwed...they must set their prices before the event. if they are raised, that is price gouging..

I should have phrased that a little differently. I should say that the ticket providers could charge more than the face value initially if they wanted to for prime seating. Most ticket prices are very reasonable and would still be sold if prices were higher. I know gouging is illegal, as it should be.

alright..gotcha.. ya supply and demand is accounted for way before scalpers get their hands on anything.. or thats how its supposed to be...

there may be some huge scalper ring somewhere...like some kind of cartel or ''company'' that arranges things with the venue and the performance or show or event ..to set up a price...

    oh wait...Ticketmaster :)

Fuck that, because they know something will sell out doesn't give any excuse why they should be able to rip off people who like to enjoy live music.

little guy scalper wins cuz he gets to make money without paying rent for an office, having to have business insurance or paying for advertising (the venue pays to advertise the show, so he gets customers "for free").

Big biz, such as the promoter, loses, because they lose ticket sales.
  • I think there are much bigger isues to focus on rather than scalping
