“We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, Arikara, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism.
“We took Africans away from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism.
“We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel.
“We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenage and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard working fathers.
“We bombed Qaddafi’s home, and killed his child. Blessed are they who bash your children’s head against the rock.
“We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to pay back for the attack on our embassy, killed hundreds of hard working people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day not knowing that they’d never get back home.
“We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye.
“Kids playing in the playground. Mothers picking up children after school. Civilians, not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.
“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff that we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.
“Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred. And terrorism begets terrorism. A white ambassador said that y’all, not a black militant. Not a reverend who preaches about racism. An ambassador whose eyes are wide open and who is trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice upon which we are now poised. The ambassador said the people we have wounded don’t have the military capability we have. But they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them. And we need to come to grips with that.”
More from the article I ripped the quote from...
He went on to describe seeing the photos of the aftermath of 9/11 because he was in Newark, N.J., when the planes struck. After turning on the TV and seeing the second plane slam into one of the twin towers, he spoke passionately about what if you never got a chance to say hello to your family again.
“What is the state of your family?” he asked.
And then he told his congregation that he loved them and asked the church to tell each other they loved themselves.
His sermon thesis:
1. This is a time for self-examination of ourselves and our families.
2. This is a time for social transformation (then he went on to say they won’t put me on PBS or national cable for what I’m about to say. Talk about prophetic!)
“We have got to change the way we have been doing things as a society,” he said.
Wright then said we can’t stop messing over people and thinking they can’t touch us. He said we may need to declare war on racism, injustice, and greed, instead of war on other countries.
“Maybe we need to declare war on AIDS. In five minutes the Congress found $40 billion to rebuild New York and the families that died in sudden death, do you think we can find the money to make medicine available for people who are dying a slow death? Maybe we need to declare war on the nation’s healthcare system that leaves the nation’s poor with no health coverage? Maybe we need to declare war on the mishandled educational system and provide quality education for everybody, every citizen, based on their ability to learn, not their ability to pay. This is a time for social transformation.”

Obama was smart enough to sift through his reverends words and shape his own beliefs.
Reverend Wright has a lot of insight to share, but it is affected by a lifetime of negativity whereas Obama uses optimism to address the same issues. He is a very bright man. We will be lucky to have him as our president.
Perfectly said.
Okay, but how many of you would continue to make me seriously if I posted 3 threads about how black people are ruining this country?
Right, you guys would just sift through my posts and let it slide and just tell me I was wrong on this one.
Or would you bring it up everytime we disagreed? Such as 'Why should we listen to you? You are the racist bigot who started those stupid ass threads.' I'm willing to bet many of you wouldn't bother reading any of the other stuff I posted anymore after posting some extremely racist crap on here like that. And you'd have a damn good reason not to.

I guess then we'd miss out on all your wonderful insight..... all kidding aside, I really don't see anything Wright said as being "extremely racist", and I'm white.
I'm also white and I have a problem with this widely influential man blaming all the problems in the black community on white people. Do you not see what a huge problem that kind of mindset can produce? Not to mention it completely ignores the real problems we face together as blacks and whites of this nation both not being spoken for by our government.
And again, I'm not saying that this one man's opinion is a huge issue. You're right to say it's not. But to act like having this discussion is silly and pointless is not being honest with yourself and based on your favoritism towards Obama. Imus got fired for racist remarks and there was pages of discussion on that issue, where many of you who are excusing Wright's comments as 'out of context' were crucifying Imus and it's just not consistent which bugs me and makes me want to keep on with this.
If I can say this isn't a huge issue and shouldn't be the factor that decides your vote then you could at least admit that Wright's remarks were delusional, misguided and could produce a certain mindset among some of his followers.

I agree, a few of his remarks were misguided, maybe even somewhat delusional. But I found none to be extremely racist....just thoughts from a wise black man that has seen and been through issues you and I may never experience.
And if it has affected my vote, it's made my support for Obama stronger.
To me it is a bit extreme to pit blacks against whites like that. It opens old wounds and diminishes so much of the progress we have made throughout the years. But he's just one man and most black people, I would like to think, would not agree with him. I'm just pointing out that his remarks are fucked up and not just 'people wanting to tear someone down based on nothing'.
I don't see how it could make your support even stronger. But then again, I didn't think you could be much stronger of an Obama supporter as you already were...which speaks to your ability to remain objective here and explains the aggressive attitude when I'm just trying to have a simple discussion here pointing out inconsistancies based on support/bias.

He says "rich white people"... which I'm sorry. Guess what. That's code. Code for "Asshole Republicans et. al"....
Sorry, but it is.
they engage in fradulent debates while silencing candidates.
it is MARCH and they cant even pick a leading candidate
and YOU WANNA KNOW WHY!!!!
because they are both TERRIBLE CANDIDATES!!!
you are handing the presidency to JOHN MCCAIN
AND YOU THE VOTERS ARE TO BLAME FOR LETTING THE MEDIA SHAPE YOUR IDEAS
THIS IS WHAT SHEEP DESERVE AND THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE GETTING FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS!
1. A war with Iran
2. More Troops than ever in the middle east.
3. Israel will be lost
4. No Oil Pipeline will succeed outside of south Iraq
5. A WAR WITH IRAN
6. WWIII
7. and a few good policies will be enacted here at home (McCain isnt that bad)
8. More Money will be squandered
and ABOVE ALL
more freedoms will be taken from you in light of security
I don't think being white has anything to do with it. Coni and Colin aren't white but they sure fucked us over. You can say Uncle Tom but remember, a lot of people say the same thing about Obama. I don't think it's a point.
And it's not just the black community that gets fucked over, either. On this point we should unite not point out the color of our skin as a difference to point the finger of blame. And why say that the government manufactured AIDS just to kill people of color? Gee, I thought white people were dying from this, too?? And it's only black people whose lives have been destroyed by drugs and drug dealers. White people don't have those problems...riight. He is being divisive and overly paranoid. The government fucks over poor people not just black people. I don't think he's helping the problem but acting like black people are the victim here and he's not looking at the full picture.
I will say I think the police give black people a much harder time. But that's not the same thing as white people distributing AIDS and drugs to the black community in an effort to tear it apart as part of a conspiracy against only them. I don't know what to think about the AIDS conspiracy...I haven't really read too much about it. Do you guys think that AIDS was invented to kill off black people? And I know the gov't pushes drugs but it's not just black people who suffer from it so I don't understand the need to bring race up here when if affects us all. It only furthers the animosity and deepens the divide between us.

But fuck it. He wants to talk shit? Let him. It's church. Not a government owned function. I.e. "My tax money doesn't fund his church, so let him do what he wants."
Don't get me wrong. I'm not the biggest Obama lover. I'd vote for Nader or Paul in a heartbeat over him. He's a little too slick and I dunno. He's a fucking evil democrat. That's enough of a reason for me not to vote for him.
This shit with his pastor is bullshit though.
Oh god. He complained about America. Oh my god. What ever will we do?!?1
It's the same shit they used in the run up to the war. SAME.!
And this is different from the Republicans... how? I don't read any solution from your comments.
Our 2-party system basically ties our hands, unfortunately. I voted in the primaries, and not for McCain, Clinton, OR Obama. But we've got what we've got. They all lie; I just hope we get the one who lies the least. It's politics. :(

I'm right there with you...let him complain about America. I'd be right there with him complaining about the same injustices carried out by our gov't. That's not what he was doing, though... not entirely. But it bugs the crap outta me when a black person or a white person wants to blame each other for our problems instead of uniting together as a fed up citizenry. If we could do that then we might be able to get some more stuff done instead of playing the victim and focusing on something trival like skin color.
And if I was serious about wanting to bring america together and fix these problems like Obama claims he is, I would have been quite upset to hear my pastor saying such remarks that only help to make the problem bigger.
I don't know what they are pulling to blow this up in the media but please don't put that on me. I'm only bringing up my concerns with what he said and I'm not exaggerating or over-sensationalizing it. What we discuss here isn't the same as the talking heads over at Fox news.

Bullshit.
I want to stop getting fucked. Both would do that, but in different ways.
Any other candidate will continue to fuck me. No two ways about it.
Both of these men are sincere in their beliefs and their differences.
Here is just one reason I would vote for both.
Nader: Out of principle. He should be allowed in the debates. Then and now.
Paul: He wants to abolish the Fed.
They both want out of the war.
I can fucking handle myself with day to day life. I need a president to do just a couple of things for me.
One would be to get us out of Iraq. The other would be to stop the federal government and large banks from stealing from me.
Credibility nothing.
Sorry.
I will never buy the "chickens coming home to roost" theory. And anyone who espouses it is an asshole. It's America, so you're free to hold that notion. But it makes you an asshole in my book.
for the least they could possibly do
WTF. Where did he say that? He basically said that because of American Foreign policy, American citizens have suffered.
Now granted. It took a handful of complete shit heads to ice that cake, but there is at least some truth to that notion.
I like your style.

Hannity does McCain's dirty work. I feel sorry for him. He probably doesn't enjoy much of anything.
Tonight however, I plan on baking some Chicken Parmigiana with my wife and drinking a nice glass of white wine...
Hannity has to wake up in the morning and tell more lies.
