  • Funny stuff! I love Dennis Miller. I think most of his political commentary is spot on. His comment about wishing there was a country called "Al-Qaedia"... but how there isn't, and that's why we're in Afghanistan... was so right on...

  • never heard of this guy before but he comes across as an arrogant asshole, but i don't think he's aiming at the non-American market.

His comedic "schtick" is that of an arrogant asshole, although there is quite a bit of his true feelings in what he says. He often does long monolouges, or "rants", where he goes on for a few minutes about a certain topic without ever pausing to take a breath while he completely tears apart a subject with sarcasm and "in your face" bluntness.

He calls 'em like he sees 'em.

  • nothing he said during that clip was remotely funny to me. maybe i just think war isn't something to make comedy about. then again, i've never really like him. he's a prick. he was mean to joe dirt.

Not any more of a prick than Bill Hicks or Bill Maher.

But at least those guys are actually funny.

I'll bet you would like Dennis Miller if his political commentary ventured on the side of Bill Hicks, instead of leaning more towards the right or center.

Actually, I used to like his show on HBO (except for the opening rant thing... god, that was awful) but his humor has since all but dried up.

It was very funny and he made his points clear. I don't agree with him but he made his points well.

Sometimes he is a bit dated. He'll still pull out the "duh" comment sometimes...lol!!! By the way, I think Bill Maher is pretty funny too.

Well that's just it , you know. I mean, you don't have to like him or his views, but he is a very unique comedian - and he's certainly no dumb ass either.

I know you and most here won't agree with me, but it's actually refreshing to hear someone of even minor fame and in show business not be afraid to admit that he supports Bush

I think the point about the checkers and chess was actually valid, but I would have prefered the chess player. BUT it was a good point. He is no dumbass, a very smart guy. Again, I actually SUPPORT his views on keeping our soliders safe. I also like it because he would honestly be a good person to sit down and talk with.

    Plus, comedy is comedy!

And the thing that used to make me cringe was when he'd run thing fingers through his hair!! It had to be about 25 times a show.

Bill Maher is a bit of a flake, as well. But I really like Real Time...he always lets both sides be heard and keeps it civil...unlike many other political pundit type shows.

    Bill Hicks is god. :D

Maher is a good host. He's very funny and Real Time is a very good show.
He does try to be fair, but every once in awhile, he can't help himself and goes a little too much into the Bush Bashing. He just had Benjamin Netanyahu on recently ( sorry if spelled wrong ) did you catch it? It was actually a very impressive interview. The audience at Maher's show is about as annoying as you could get though. Even if you dislike Bush, you can't enjoy watching a show whose audience you know exactly when they are going to laugh, and holler every single time - .....can you?????? lol

Yeah, I saw it. Bill is very fair but that shouldn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to still express his opinions on his own show, no less. Who wouldn't do the same? And a left leaning audience is to be expected, the same happens on the right.

I think Dennis Miller can be funny... this little spot was. I think that he speaks for a lot of Republicans like myself. He admits that Iraq is a fuck up and the only connection between terrorism and Iraq is that they are both Arabs. Iraq is a war of convenience, not of necessity. And the Iraqis are fucked up... they were fucked up and they will always be fucked up. They don't want us to leave... if we leave... THEY have to fight. And we all know, they don't fight... they surrender.
And I don't argue war politics when talking to military people. I just say, "Thanx for your service and I wish our country would do more for you."
Finally, on Kerry/Bush... exactly. Kerry is a thinking man, Bush is a reactive man. But, difficult problems require the best and correct solution, not the quickest one. My first reaction to September 11, 2001 was to let the Peace Keeper fly and rains down nuclear terror on that entire region... from the Mediterreaen to the Persian Gulf... and render that fucking place a smoldering, radioactive 240,000 year half life, uninhabitable waste land... one swift blow and the Israeli/Palestinain problem... gone... by wiping out Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebannon, saudi arabia, the whol lot. Fuck 'em all. Then, I calmed down and knew the first reaction and simplest solution is not the best. Same thing here. Difficult problems are never sovled by simple solutions. Which is why I voted for Kerry.

To find humor, there has to be some truth behind the joke...if we percieve things to be different....well...we're going to find different things funny :)

Hell, I totally disagree with jon stewart, but he IS funny.
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cuz I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And desire and love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

he used to be funny. now he's just an angry, uptight babyboomer. the gems are getting harder to find these days is all.

I think we're all a little angry...and we think people that are angry for the same reasons to be funny....

but yeah...you mention the babyboomer thing...I hate those guys. (insert angry face here, cuz I still can't do it!!!)

I think Dennis Miller is a pretty funny dude. I can alway see the humor in what he says even if I don't believe in it.

For those that have commented on Bill Maher...I think he is absolutely histerical.
There really isn't anything better on TV right now then "New Rules"! That shit is awesome!!

I do agree that his audience is annoying and you can tell he gets annoyed with them quite often.
What I like about Bill is that he is completely open-minded to all aspects of an issue and while considered "liberal" by many he tears some liberal ideas apart better then any conservative talking head. He will let anyone convey their point and instead of throwing out how he may "feel" about it he often asks questions to build on it to get more out of that guest or others on his panel.
Real Time is one of my fav. shows!! Good stuff!
Next week he's got a mostly Conservative panel...should be good.

What I love about him is that he doesn't take any bullshit from anyone in his interviews. He is one of the few that really asks the tough questions...journalists: TAKE NOTE HOW IT'S DONE!

i never liked dennis miller, even before 9/11 when he became so right winged. a liberal friend had given me a tape of his monolouges and thought it was some of the funniest stuff, i thought it sucked...

anyway, does he still have his show on one of the nbcs <i think cnbc>? i never watched it much but i thought it was a pretty good show, he was always nice to his guests and didn't shout over them like a lot of hosts do and would let his guests talk and finish their points even when he disagreed...you could see him chomping at the bit to make his reply but he'd still sit there and wait until the other was done...you don't see that much now, usually the host will just cut the person off and make their point
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
