............canceling a visit to the injured troops. You know since Eddie is such a big advocate for injured troops against the war. His excuse was humorous.
Many many wonderful shows, since day one.

The initital story i heard, was he had cancelled a pre-planned visit to the troops in Germany after he was told by the Pentagon that the trip would violate a Pentagon policy prohibiting campaign stops on military installations. No doubt there are about 25 different versions of why he didn't though, floating around by now.

Another non issue blown out of proportion. I guess when people don't have anything of substance to trash Obama with, anything will do. Obama was going to take a hit on this issue either way, so the smart thing to do would have been to visit the troops, get the credit and then take the hit for using the visit as a campaign stop. The old catch-22, dammed if he did, dammed if he didn't!

    A no win situation.

Oh, and as to Ed, i hadn't really thought much about he will feel. I don't really care too much either. Love his music though ;)

Ed has not been that overt about Obama. Either he is finally learning to tone it down and pick his battles wisely or maybe he actually wasn't suckered by the mind numbing rhetoric for "change" everyone on here bought by the f'n pound. How's your change feelin now?

the story that i heard was that Obama was told that the media would not be allowed into the hospital while he visits the troops. when he heard that he decided to forget it.

I have no idea why who Vedder votes for or what he thinks of politicians, matters to anyone.

    are you serious?
have you not been to any of his west coast solo shows, or any of the recent east coast pearl jam shows? heard any boots? he has been VERY overt. he just wasn't as overt as the rest of the band from the get-go.

i believe someone posted here about how an obama poster was walked across the stage at one, maybe all, of his solo gigs? he has mentioned obama, his belief, a few times at EVERY east coast show i've attended this year. pretty 'overt' to me.

    beyond that...

I was at one of his shows and he made one Obama comment. And it wasn't that overt compared to what he was doin in 2004. Big difference. Thats all Im sayin.

Atually more overt now then in 04. don't think he mentioned Kerry once.

He just wanted the giant douche out ot the WH.

This year it is the giant douche candidate and the much much mcuh better candidate compared to Bore and Lurch previously.

only caught one solo show on the west coast (berkeley I)...

he mentioned not wanting to be too overtly political -- and then a giant banner was unfurled and walked across the stage behind him. one of the funnier things i've seen at a concert actually. however, it's certainly not subtle.

not to point out the obvious, however, the 2004 tour was a VOTE FOR CHANGE tour. it wasn't even a pearl jam tour per se. it was in support of a political ideaology, so i WOULD totally expect 'overt.'

this year, was a pearl jam tour. no other agenda. making ANY comment, even just one, is overt. he is expressing his politics and desires by saying even one word of support to obama, or any candidate.

you don't see it like that, fair enough. that's all i'm sayin'.

i've heard about that, and i think it's awesome. :D

i know at the DC show, while not beating the audience over the head with it, most definitely made a few comments, and in direct support of obama, that was clear. same at one/both MSGs. hartford and mansfield I, i don't remember specific comments per se.

I think it may have been MSG II where at the end of Wishlist, he pretty much sang about how he wishes Obama would be president, or something.

That was a better piss break than Even Flow. :p

You must have missed the giant "Obama" banner he kept trotting out on his solo tour, eh?

And the way he keeps sneaking his name into "All Along the Watchtower" and various tags?

eh, as far as speaking goes, I think Obama isn't so terrible. He could do better, and he is overrated, but if I were to want to complain about Obama, his speaking abilities would definitely not be one of my complaints.

This is one that Obama wouldn't win, unless he had never made his intentions to visit public. If he went, Republicans would accuse him of trying to act like a president. They would accuse him of using soldiers to achieve poltical ends. How shameful!

So, he didn't go because he was trying to outmaneuver the Republicans...not let them use the visit against him. But, they did anyway by telling total lies about why he didn't go and using it against him.

On this one, and on many comming occasions, no matter what choice Obama makes in a given situation, it will be swiftly spun by glittering boats into an unflattering web of lies.

Right now, McCain is having a hissy fit over Obama's popularity. Oh, dear. The media don't pay me no mind! I'm so jealous. So, I'll lie and compare Obama to Britney. And Paris. Oh, ooops! I did it again...The Hiltons gave me money, and I just called their daughter a brainless celebrity bimbo. I'll bet they're glad they back me now! Parents love it when you insult their kids!

Actually, McCain is so jealous of Obama, he has to talk trash. How else is he going to get attention? He sounds catty enough to start meowing! Now *that* is humorous.
