Israeli minister threatens Iran

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7440472.stm
Mofaz, a former army chief, may be lining up a challenge to Olmert
A top Israeli official has said that if Iran continues with its alleged nuclear arms programme, Israel will attack it.

Speaking to Yediot Ahronot newspaper, Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz said sanctions on Iran were ineffective.

Mr Mofaz is one of three deputy prime ministers and the transport minister.

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Iran's nuclear programme must be stopped by what he termed all possible means.

"The international community has a duty and responsibility to clarify to Iran, through drastic measures, that the repercussions of their continued pursuit of nuclear weapons will be devastating," Mr Olmert said.

Iran insists that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes but it is defying a demand from the UN Security Council to stop the enrichment of uranium.

"If Iran continues with its programme for developing nuclear weapons, we will attack it. The sanctions are ineffective," Mr Mofaz told Yediot Ahronot.

"Attacking Iran, in order to stop its nuclear plans, will be unavoidable," he said.

The former chief of the army and defence minister is one of several senior figures in the governing Kadima party who may challenge the leadership of Mr Olmert, who faces allegations of corruption.

The UN Security Council has approved three rounds of sanctions against Iran.

These include asset restrictions and travel bans on Iranian individuals and companies said to be involved in nuclear work.

The sanctions also ban the sale to Iran of so-called dual-use items - items which can have either a military or civilian purpose.

'In late October 2007, according to the International Herald Tribune, the head of the IAEA, Mohamed ElBaradei, stated that he had seen "no evidence" of Iran developing nuclear weapons. The IHT quoted ElBaradei as saying "We have information that there has been maybe some studies about possible weaponization. That's why we have said that we cannot give Iran a pass right now, because there is still a lot of question marks... . But have we seen Iran having the nuclear material that can readily be used into a weapon? No. Have we seen an active weaponization program? No." The IHT report went on to say that "ElBaradei said he was worried about the growing rhetoric from the U.S., which he noted focused on Iran's alleged intentions to build a nuclear weapon rather than evidence the country was actively doing so. If there is actual evidence, ElBaradei said he would welcome seeing it.'

U.S. report says Iran halted nuclear weapons program in 2003
By Mark Mazzetti Published: December 3, 2007

WASHINGTON: A new assessment by American intelligence agencies concludes that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that the program remains on hold, contradicting an assessment two years ago that Tehran was working inexorably toward building a bomb.

The conclusions are likely to be major factor in the tense international negotiations aimed at getting Iran to halt its nuclear energy program, and they come in the middle of a U.S. presidential campaign during which a possible military strike against Iran's nuclear program has been discussed.
  • It's such an obvious snow job at this point.

It's all about wiping out Islam based on some broken/racist religious ideology, taking the sweetest cuts of land and resources, and getting filthy rich in the process.

See, here it is, in action ... Byrnzie starts in with the anti-Israel rhetoric, and someone else jumps in with the racism/Islamophobia claims, and in the end, it'll be Brynzie who knocks people for using soundbytes the very moment someone dare disagrees. Its like some kinda conspiracy theory brute squad -cum- circle jerk ...

Do you guys really want discourse on this issue?
  • Oh.

    I thought i'd add,
Daniel Estulin was on the Alex Jones show on Wednesday.
His sources tell him that war with Iran is off the table,
and that the new target is Pakistan.

I'm still trying to figure that one out.
Best i can make, it may be geo-strategic positioning to put American forces closer to China?

    I dunno.
I just understand that there is a powerful faction within the elite structure that IS pro-America, and is positioning itself to make sure that if and when a new global order comes, that America (and NOT China) is firmly in control.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

Well thats what it is. Look up Neo-conservative Zionist ideologies. Look up PNAC as well sometime. Look up the fabrication of the Iraq and Iran conflicts. It's the same people doing the same patterns for many years now.

Hardly conspiracy. Just look at what's been paraded in front of your very own eyes for the past 5 years in particular

Byrnzie starts in with the anti-Israel rhetoric

Funny that you should claim I started in with 'Anti-Israel rhetoric' when I actually made no comment in either of my initial posts. I just laid out a news article, and then posted links to two other articles which provided a question mark as to the contents of the original article.
If you can find any rhetoric on my part then you're seeing something that isn't there.

Just present your facts, and put forth your arguments instead of whatever it is that you think you're attempting to be doing...

    How is his post anti-israel?

    Back on topic...

On the Diane Rehm show yesterday they discussed the possibility of an October Surprise this year being an attack on Iran. Check out the 11 AM hour:

U.S. in Pakistan and Israel in Iran. Sounds kind of cool to me. Maybe they can switch it up and keep it fresh half way through the war.
