WTF does it matter what they use? A .50 cal is a far more humane way to kill any animal than by harpoon for fuck's sake! The end result is an animal that is harvested for thier food. Deal with it.

If they're going to kill them anyway, then that's probably a better way to go.

It's like those seals in Canada this year who were spared from the fur hunters because they got caught on an iceburg.....and starved to death. They probably would have been better off with the hunters.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

I guess the real issue is if they were violating federal and state firearms laws regarding the legality of thier machine gun (if indeed that's what it was). It is illegal for ordinary citizens to own a fully automatic firearm in Washington State. Whether this applies to tribal members I do not know. I think it depends on the terms of thier individual treaties.

when hunting for food, the object is to leave as FEW holes in the animal as possible. This was just a bunch of drunken amateurs.

I have to agree. Man up and wrestle that whale out of the ocean like their ancestors did or just go to the store.

this whale was not "harvested for their food." this was some boys (I wouldn't call anyone using a machine gun to kill a defenseless animal men) playing with big toys...and the whale had to pay for it. they didn't have (nor applied for) any permit to hunt this whale. hell, not even the other members of the Makah tribe were aware that they were out to get this whale.

btw...Neah Bay is 155 miles from Seattle so they're not a "local Seattle tribe"

  • This is bullshit. I hope those fucks get lined up and shot with a .50 cal. I might not have a problem with this if it was necessary for them to have that whale to survive. All they would have done with that whale is sell whatever they could to the Japanese. I hope some type of punishment comes down on these guys.
