so me and my wife are talking about her comment "for the first time in my adult life, i am proud to be an american."

how can you make that blanket statement? it really does inject much doubt.

i just hope her comment does not derail obama.

I don't have a problem with that. American pride is overrated.
Certainly a less controversial way to phrase it would have been "I've never been so proud to be an American"

I hope this does not come out the wrong way, but I also think that it is a little harder for white folks, and especially white men, to climb up the soapbox and be outraged about this comment by a black woman and be credible about it.
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

Michelle Obama is far from a moron. She is AMAZINGLY bright.

I think it got mixed up in the delivery.

"For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is making a comeback." (What I think she meant)

    is a lot different from

"For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country. Because it feels like hope is making a comeback." (how the media is playing it out)

The words are the exact same, but the delivery is everything.

i believe she made a moronic statement and will be completely blown out of context.

i agree that "first ladies" are not that important but this first lady is highly important to obama's success. she will become a distractor.

  • Like everything else in this campaign, it will be blown out of proportion. You can't blame someone for mis-speaking when they do countless speeches everyday (without notes or a teleprompter).

to me it has nothing to do with american pride or outrage and i think your quote would have been brilliant. "i've never been so proud to be an american"

more often than not, people speak without much thought. once you are on the level that she is......much thought is needed before speaking. too many people looking for a vulneralbe spot in the armor.

i agree and enjoy his speeches, for the reasons you listed.

As someone said, these people are scrutinized incredibly. You could also see it as having made ONE controversial statement out of thousands :)

    I like her, I think she's genuine.

Amazing how her statement is getting all this attention and Bill O'Rielly's response to create a "lynching party" for Michelle Obama" doesn't even get a nod.

once again, a non-issue becomes an issue because people are bored and latch onto something like this instead of concentrating on the REAL issues.

who gives a shit. let's move on.

    PEPPER comment - non issue

Implying Michelle Obama is un-American - political issue

Calling for a lynching party against Michelle Obama - HLS issue as it represents a death threat against an immediate family member of a presidential candidate.

    Oh, please.
What is pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain is that she was referring to being proud of the involvement and enthusiasm Americans are showing towards this election cycle. We havn't had this much voter turnout for a long time. Young people are showing interest and getting involved in record shattering numbers. Citizen election involvement has been pretty pathetic for some years now. She's proud of how the country is finally getting involved in the political process. Her mistake was in the delivery, it allowed someone to distort her obvious intention.

    LOL!

    Unbelievable.

This country is full of suckers who listen to fools like Bill O'Biley and pump their chests and fist in support of the ridiculous nonsense that comes out his mouth.

The fact Bill O'Biley has a fanbase and audience speaks volumes more about the mental and intellectual state of the people of this country, than, anything Michelle Obama could ever say or do.

This is just another ridiculous attempt to spin and twist nothing, into a frenzy-feeding drama for the hate-mongering lemmings. Hilariously, as you can see; it's working.

Or is it........Sadly, as you can see; it's working.

It's gotten to the point where all I can do is laugh at the media, the political talk show hosts and the people of this country who follow, wait with bated breath for their next words (to tell them what to think) and then go around repeating the very same ridiculous nonsense they were told to think and say; by idiots like Bill O'Biley.
