"Pre-order the Super DeLuxe edition here. Ships on or before March 24,2009. DVD is REGION 0. Credit Cards will be Charged at time of purchase. Free U.S. shipping, $30/Can, $50/Intl. Random sets signed by PJ."
Key here is sentence three: "Credit Cards will be Charged at time of purchase."
I'm taking that to mean at time of pre-order even though the charge hasn't shown up on my account yet. It's only been three days, two of which were weekend, since I ordered.
I don't think it makes much sense for 10C to lock in the orders now and charge the accounts later. There's no way for 10C to guarantee that people will have available funds in 3.5 months or that people's card numbers won't change between now and then (due to expirations and renewals) and cause mis-ships or people to not get the set they reserved.
I've read about the Doors and Beck putting together sets like this but I have no experience with how the sales model went. They might be worth looking into.
Hope this wasn't a complete waste of time.
Many people will wait nearer release time otherwise to order since there's no point in buying so early for something you can just as well get later.

The pre-order said card would be charged at the time of purchase. It's not just a hold and charge when it ships.
I purchased it the day it came out and the funds were holding as an authorization for a couple of days but today it's already posted as a real charge and funds were taken off my bank account.
I hope no one actually thought they didn't mean it when they said they would charge it right away and paid with their rent money or something yikes!
From the customer's perspective, there's absolutely no point in pre-ordering something so long in advance if you have to pay now, you in fact are losing money (in interest).
Amazon won't charge your card until the item ships and Best Buy does the same thing.
When I pre-ordered the Radiohead In Rainbows box set my credit card was charged right away, so I think it depends on the retailer, some of the will charge your credit card at the time of purchase and some others will charge you at the time they ship the item.
