That would be nice. But how do you get more benefits with less taxes?

i find it amazing how someone can pay in say $1 million yet get only a fraction of that back. your best bet is to live to be 120; but again; they don't provide the medical coverage you need to live that long. it's a catch 22 i tell you.

yeah. though it is just another faded memory now, i give bush a LOT of credit for pushing that issue in his first term.

It is the ONLY thing i think he ever did with good intention for our country. I can't believe he even bothered sticking his neck out on that issues.

I am probably the only one that feels this way... but, i am not counting on Social Security to save me. I'm not expecting to see dime one from it... and i don't care.
    Why?
Because I figure it's my way of saying, "Thanx" to the generation that went through WWII. I know that in 1946... when they came home... wages weren't what they are not. And everything costs so much more today. If we expected them to survive on "What they put into it"... they'd be out in the cold. I think it's okay if I pay for their benefits.

  • Just fucking do away with it all together. Cut ppl off at say age 40, and never have it again. Say you have to be 40 years old on January 1st 20XX to still be able to get it. People in their 30's can still save up money for retirement....sure the 37-39 year olds would get fucked the most...but somebody's gonna get fucked either way. Be responsible for your own finances and retirement.

I hear you but i take exception with your analysis of wages and prices.

I don't really understand why we should feel bad for the baby boomers, probably the most perfectly pampered and over protected group of individuals in the history of humanity. Nothing against their character, but that age bracket grew up through some of the best times America has ever seen, even though it wasn't always peaches all around.

As for "The Greatest Generation", yeah i DO agree, they deserve to not get screwed. They truly earned that shit.

But your account of how when they came back from war, "wages were not what they are now" and "things cost more", that is INFLATION man. I know you "understand" that, but like most of us are or were at some point, you aren't really thinking about it.

Example: I saw a plaque on the wall in the Columbus, GA airport about this black female pilot in the black division of the US Airforce in WWII. It said something about "her first job was working in a corn mill for only 8 cents an hour". Making you feel bad for her.

The problem with that is, the reason it was only 8 cents was because the money supply was a SMALL fraction of what it is now. For each of the 8 cents she got paid in just one hour that year, the government coined another 80-90 between that time and present day. That means each penny was worth just about a dollar! She made 6-8 dollars an hour, INFLATION ADJUSTED to 200X dollars.

And the inflation index report that came out TODAY said inflation was UP 3% for the last quarter of 2007!

    Sorry for the siderant.
But that bugs me when i hear that misrepresentation of fact! ;)

But other than the already retired and the 1-10 years away from retiring folks, i say CUT EVERYONE OFF.

Totally agree. Let ME keep the money and let ME invest/save it, because I know one thing for sure...Im not going to take every dime of it that I get back and try to finance a war, or some other stupid program with it. Ill actually get something back at the end of my work life.

Nothing to do with Democrats or Republicans... You said Bush wanted to bring it to the forefront... but, America diverted his plan because of this War takes a higher priority. Where are your priorities?

My priorities are here at home...which is where our troops should also be. We spend $9 BILLION a month trying to force our opinion on a religious war that guns wont solve.

Get the troops home, save the $9B a month and put it to good use here.

    That's my point, too.
The War is the highest priority on America's plate right now. Not Social Security or steroids in baseball or gay marriages or anything else the Bush Administration has be waving in our faces.
3,891 soldiers killled... about 500 billion dollars of taxes... unkown number of Iraqi dead... and the cost our Iraq War military vetterans will pay due to the piss poor support they are recieving when they come home.
Those are higher priorities than our chump change Social Security taxes... leastwise, in my book they are.
