So you want to kill some people? Then go to sniper school! No, it's not fake, it's real!

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

From what I understand, the military requires that soldiers undergo psychological screening before admittance to sniper school so that the wrong nutjobs don't end up with these kinds of skills.

Q: Can civilians attend your courses?

A: If you can pass the background check required to purchase a firearm, you are qualified to attend one of the regular scheduled courses. We don’t believe there is a “secret” way to shoot accurately, that’s why we are the only school that teaches sniper shooting skills to any qualified students wanting to improve their own skills. The Warfighter course is reserved for DoD personnel and DoS contractors only. To attend, provide a police or military I.D. or one of the following:
    1. State Issued Concealed Weapon Permit or
    2. Letter from local police chief/sheriff showing no criminal history

Still, none of that equates to psychological screening.

You don't need "sniper school" to be able to kill people. Most people could do a fine job with just a shotgun and a crowded area.

Why get all hyped up over "sniper school"?

People who open up on a crowded area with a shotgun tend to get caught.

That's a lot different from people who are trained to stealthily hit their targets from a remote distance and sneak away without being seen.

Does it really matter in the end? The result is still the same.

My point is that this is being hyped because of the word "sniper". This school is no more dangerous to anyone in the US than any marksmanship course or regular practice.

"Sniper" is the new "Assault Weapon".

Actually, the result is much different. When people are caught committing murders, they usually end up in jail for the rest of their lives or they kill themselves. This means they don't get to kill more people.

When people get away with murder, they kill more people. In fact, there are probably a lot of people who don't commit murder because they don't want to end up in prison for the rest of their lives. Sniper training changes things.

Why even have sniper training at all? In fact, the military should just stop all of its sniper schools since it's really no more effective than just marksmanship course or regular practice.

"Sniper" is the new "Assault Weapon".

Again...this subject is just too complicated for you to understand.

But if someone can shoot people from a very far distance away it automatically narrows down your list of suspects. If a guy does use a shotgun in a crowded area, it really could be anyone. If a sniper kills someone you know it has to be someone with specialized training.

I'm already a damn good sniper...

Yea, but that specialized training is going to make it a lot harder to catch them. Concealment is the main weapon of a sniper. That's why it took three weeks to catch the beltway sniper. If that guy had been the beltway shotgunner, I seriously, seriously doubt it would have taken three weeks to catch him.
