There is no way the democrats will stop it from happening. Most jobs now require high levels of education. The factory jobs are almost gone. One out of four high school students do not graduate. Many companies are getting away from college loans because of the slow pay-back. The federal loans for college top out at 22,000. You will basically have the Burger King Workers, and the college educated. Nothin in between.

minimum wage hasn't gone up in relation to inflation in 40 years, that might have something to do with it. Add to that the ceo's exponential increase in salary and the high cost of a living and, yeah.

economic levels are similar to what they were in the 20's. Right about the time the people stood up amd took back what was theirs.

the people can only be pushed so far.

Great, because there's nothing like having more money than you need or being dirt poor.

First off having a bachelors degree does not automatically elevate you out of middle class. Some Burger King workers probably have more of a savings account than i do and they are not necissarily lower class . Granted they don't have a 100,000 dollar education.

Second, Go to a fucking state university and get an inexpensive education and make the most of it. Not that hard anymore to go to college. In fact its easier than ever.

People are advancing themselves everyday and they do it on their own, but whenever someone falls on some difficult times or has some obstacles in their way its always somebody elses problem or somebody elses fault. Why is it never "My" fault anymore?

I don't think it's a matter of "fault". I think life is complex and each individual's personal experience is created by various intersecting factors. While it's obviously true that everyone has choices, one's choices are limited or expanded by external factors as well.

I consider myself part of the working poor, formerly known as the middle class.

firstly, i'd like to know why it's ONLY democrats who you consider resoponsible?

secondly...while sure, college is becoming more and more a 'necessity' for many, many well-paying jobs....even right NOW...tis not the only way. there are still some highly skilled fields out there, sans college education, that pay well. the 'crafts' mostly...electrician, plumber, carpenter, etc. few more beyond that too that i am sure i am not thinking of. anyhoo..as ever, it's not an 'all or nothing' approach.

but sure, keeping crying the sky is falling. it's worked well thus far. :p

I don't know about in the US, but here in Canada there is a massive shortage of skilled trades workers. If you are a skilled electrician or welder you can make a nice living right now. I am an engineer and I work with a lot of trademen and alot of them make more than I do. Plus if you move the the alberta oil fields with that type of experience you can make truckloads of cash.

we have a ton of skilled carpenters and electricians and plumbers out of work atm, as the real estate boom went to shit. I know a few that could use some work...

i could utter that phase for just about ANY field.....there are always people looking for work. sure, the *boom* may be over, but i know plenty of skilled craftspeople still with lots of work, etc. so yes, i fail to see the 'point' there in regards to this discussion?

going with the OP's points, i just don't buy it. i don't 'blame
' the democrats anymore than anyone else....and quite honestly, it's a natural evolution of our workplace and demands for skilled workers. all i pointed out beyond that is there will ALWAYS be demand for 'skilled workers' that do NOT require a college degree, just learned skills. education of some form or another pretty much is a necessity to creat a better life...whether learning a trade or earning a college degree...

  • as far as the diploma thing is concerned, the more people who get a higher education, the more useless it will be. even if everyone has degree, someone still has to unclog the shitter and refill the toilet paper!

Totally... I have a bachelor's degree and a decent job, but it took me until I was over 30 to get my loans paid off and to make a decent salary. I think that if I had to do it again, I would have became an electrician. With those types of trades, not only can you make a decent living, but there will always be work. And a lot of those guys make good cash doing side jobs as well.
