A few days ago I posted an article titled "hezbollah rejects peace proposal" which was written by the associate press.

Hezbollah rejects peace proposal
Updated: 3:22 p.m. ET July 24, 2006
"Hezbollah’s de facto negotiator, rejected proposals brought by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Monday"

"The package included a cease-fire, simultaneous with the deployment of the Lebanese army and an international force in south Lebanon and the removal of Hezbollah weapons from a buffer zone extending 30 kilometers from the Israeli border, said the official."

B"erri rejected the package, proposing instead a two-phased plan. First would come a cease-fire and negotiations for a prisoner swap. Then an inter-Lebanese dialogue would work out a solution to the situation in south Lebanon, said the official."

"In a sign of the differences between the United States and Lebanon, Saniora presented his own package for a permanent solution that contained long-standing Lebanese complaints that must be addressed before “Lebanese authority can be spread over all areas,” his office said.

It included a call for a “swift cease-fire.” Then would come an over-all solution guaranteeing the return of Lebanese prisoners held by Israel, Israel’s withdrawal from the Chebaa Farms — a tiny border region that Lebanon claims — and the provision of minefields lain in south Lebanon during its 18-year occupation of the region.

Rice’s five-hour visit, which opened her trip to the Middle East, marked the first high-level U.S. diplomatic mission to the area since fighting erupted 13 days ago. Her stay was marked by tight security as motorcades whisked her through a pummeled capital city, passing cross streets that were blocked off by armed Lebanese security forces."

Notice the primary differences in the US proposal and the Lebonese, prisoner swap, withdrawl of Israeli forces, return of the Shebaa Farms and removal of minefields in souther lebanon

"Rice's appearance in Rome came after visits to Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian territories, carrying the outline of a proposal calling for a plan that would extend the Lebanese government's control over southern Lebanon.

The plan included up to two international military forces with the charge of ending the fighting and keeping the peace.

The U.S. deal would include a prisoner swap, a withdrawal of the Israeli army now in southern Lebanon, and transfer of the disputed Shebaa Farms area to Lebanon.

Siniora called on Israel to return the Shebaa Farms area to Lebanon and to provide a map of mine fields planted in southern Lebanon by Israel."

Ok, I mean, this is good that the U.S. is supporting peace of the cause of hostilities and not sticking to their original proposal. However, they are making it look like they wanted that all along, what a joke. This is a perfect display of propaganda. Additionally, they all know what the conflict is over and refuse to settle on it, Rice is just flogging a dead horse. Perhaps the U.S. didn't fully understand the conflict until now.
