SciVee: Youtube for Science

I was just reading in a NewScientist article about this new website called SciVee.tv or SciTube.tv. It's incredible.

We've all seen those 3 second flakey animations on science sites attempting to illustrate some aspect of the science. Now there is a website dedicated to videos of the actual experiments!

There is also a heck of a lot of information included with some of the videos. Take this one as an example Order in Spontaneous Behavior

As a footnote, by default it's difficult to see the video, in the toolbar at the bottom of the abstract is a button labelled "hide paper" this will hide the abstract and enlarge the video.

Co-founder of SciVee, Phil Bourne, gives and overview of what the SciVee project and website is about.

Cool. I'm the same. A lot of the stuff on here is over my head, but there are some things which I think people in general will find interesting, particularly Dr. Carlson's Science Theatre. It could be a useful tool for anyone here studying a field of science too.

This guy is a joker. His "power a TV with a AAA battery" is complete nonsense.
You would would lose half the voltage of the AAA battery just forward biasing the diodes of the full wave rectifier in the power supply stage (0.7v). The IC's on the circuit board after the power supply need at least 5 volts DC themselves.

That is the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard. Not to mention it's DC v.s. AC voltage.

    very bizarre individual
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

Yeah I'm not sure about the science behind any of it but based on the replies by youtube users there are more than a few who claim it has worked for them. But I guess that doesn't mean much. Could be the poster of the vid and friends.

I am wondering if his speaker that he made from a paper plate and tin foil works or not.

I just did some looking around and I think everything he talks about is fake. It's all a joke or something, but he makes it look real. I was fooled there for a bit.

I think it's a parody thing. Surprising that so many people comment saying the things actually work.

Check out some of Dr. Carlson's Science Theatre

You might be able to derive some neat party tricks from his vids.
