Six years after the events of September 11, researchers are beginning to understand the attacks’ enduring toll on mental health. Recent studies at New York–Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College and New York University have shown long-term psychological and neurological repercussions in adult witnesses who were near the World Trade Center and in children who lost a parent in the tragedy....

It's almost gotten to the point where it's more interesting to see who DOESN'T "show signs" of PTSD.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.

I know you're a skeptic of this. And maybe you're one of the few that regardless of anything would never ever be affected by your baby's head blowing up in your hands. You are one of the fortunate few.

yeah...just look at all the conspiracy nuts :p
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions

kinda pales a bit in comparison eh?

I like how you think...straight and apparent.

most important thing to do ...shut off the TV. Almost a year now with no television. I watch lots of movies though don't get me wrong.

I think TV overall, is an assault on the senses..all the higher cognitive senses.

Toxic sheep food for the corporate brain fed.

I think that's awesome you giving up television for a year. I gave it up earlier this year for 3 and half months till my daughter came for a visit to the Kennedy Space Center.

Checkout this video by my friend Michael Franti back in '92 when he started Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy called TELEVISION: Drug of the Nation.

    Television lyrics

    One nation
    under God
    has turned into
    one nation under the influence
    of one drug
    [chorus:]
Television the drug of the Nation
    Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation
    (2x)
    T.V. it
    satellite links
    our United States of Unconsciousness
    Apathetic therapeutic and extremely addictive
    The methadone metronome pumping out
    150 channels 24 hours a day
you can flip through all of them
and still there's nothing worth watching
T.V. is the reason why less than 10 per cent of our
    Nation reads books daily
Why most people think Central Amerika
    means Kansas
    Socialism means unamerican
and Apartheid is a new headache remedy
absorbed in it's world it's so hard to find us
It shapes our mind the most
maybe the mother of our Nation
    should remind us
that we're sitting too close to...
    [Chorus:]
Television, the drug of the Nation
    Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation
    (2x)
    T.V. is
the stomping ground for political candidates
    Where bears in the woods
    are chased by Grecian Formula'd
    bald eagles
    T.V. is mechanized politic's
    remote control over the masses
    co-sponsored by environmentally safe gases
    watch for the PBS special
It's the perpetuation of the two party system
where image takes precedence over wisdom
Where sound bite politics are served to
    the fastfood culture
Where straight teeth in your mouth
are more important than the words
    that come out of it
Race baiting is the way to get selected
    Willie Horton or
Will he not get elected on...
    [Chorus:]
Television, the drug of the Nation
    Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation
    (2x)
T.V., is it the reflector or the director ?
    Does it imitate us
    or do we imitate it
because a child watches 1500 murders before he's
twelve years old and we wonder why we've created
a Jason generation that learns to laugh
rather than to abhor the horror
    T.V. is the place where
    armchair generals and quarterbacks can
    experience first hand
    the excitement of warfare
as the theme song is sung in the background
    Sugar sweet sitcoms
that leave us with a bad actor taste while
pop stars metamorphosize into soda pop stars
    You saw the video
    You heard the soundtrack
Well now go buy the soft drink
Well, the onla cola that I support
would be a union C.O.L.A.(Cost Of Living Allowance)
    On television
    [Chorus:]
Television, the drug of the Nation
    Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation
    (2x)
    Back again, "New and improved"
We return to our irregularly programmed schedule
    hidden cleverly between heavy breasted
    beer and car commercials
    CNNESPNABCTNT but mostly B.S.
    Where oxymoronic language like
    "virtually spotless", "fresh frozen"
"light yet filling" and "military intelligence"
    have become standard
T.V. is the place where phrases are redefined
    like "recession" to "necessary downturn"
"Crude oil" on a beach to "mousse"
    "Civilian death" to "collateral damages"
and being killed by your own Army
    is now called "friendly fire"
T.V. is the place where the pursuit
of happiness has become the pursuit of
    trivia
Where toothpaste and cars have become
    sex objects
Where imagination is sucked out of children
    by a cathode ray nipple
T.V. is the only wet nurse
    that would create a cripple
    [Chorus:]
Television, the drug of the Nation
    Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation
    (4x

  • That video screamed at me man...

I dig people that perceive at face value, and really see what they are looking at.

My question to the people out there:

Where does reality stand if for you, if you're carried along daily via a pre programmed/conceived agenda according to some conglomerate with specific interests?

What exactly happened to YOU in the process? Where did you go off to, and collect your thoughts before you were led to the already pre-made conclusion?

    Think about it.

    Hey....that's mainstream TV folks...enjoy!

You are either told, or strongly suggested, what to think.

    just please think...

why won't the government release the security footage at the pentagon, there were multiple cameras that caught the impact, this is not theory, the pentagon is "the" most secure building on the planet, popular mechanics admits that there "are" multiple shots of the plane that hit the pentagon, as per the FBI, this attack was the reason for two wars, hundreds of thousands of deaths, and a economy that is crippled, do the people a favor, show the film, and I'll never say boo regarding this again!!
  • Television is an agenda box. It all revolves around money and interests made to coerce you into dropping your cash and reality somewhere. Money = time = your very life.

Just be aware.. Shut the damn thing off. Live like the brilliant leaders of the past before the TV era...

There's a reason people (American presidents) made so much sense back then.

Society owned their own thoughts, and could think for themselves 99% of the time, instead of being spoon fed reality daily.

Trust what I am telling you. My best interest is your interest. Power to society....that means you and yours.

Almost a year now with no television.
Ditto. My one year anniversary of going tv-less is mid-September. What a huggge change that was in awakening my perceptions--giving up TV.

To be honest I don't find it liberating as much as clarifying, if that makes sense. It just seems normal how I am right now. It's not a convincing argument.. but it's accurate.

I found commercials starting yelling at me about 2 years ago. I found it offensive, and I could get no better pleasure than eliminating a commercial. TV is flooded almost 50/50 now with mind bending commercials. They are all jockeying for a piece of your brain.,.so is the news..make no mistake.

They (networks) are not stupid. They know what works on the naive day after day.

People have stopped objectively thinking about what TV really is.

    It's a sign of a sick society.

I used to eat all night while watching tv. When we lose touch with reality, by sitting in front of a hypnotizing box, and we tune out our inner world and our awareness, it helps to have some kind of vice to help stifle one's self. I noticed about six months prior to giving up TV, that I felt literally sad watching TV. Like part of myself beneath the surface wanted to live my real life.

Of the times I've seen TV since, it continues to boggle my mind how hypnotic it is. They are very crafty at hooking all of our unconscious emotions and almost guaranteeing our blind allegiance to TV. That's besides the usual social programming that makes one weird for NOT watching TV.

Roland, you've done awesome making so many changes in one year. Change is not easy. I commend you. I thrive on growth now, but I definitely understand why people like to cling to fence-post world and not evolve--it's a very complicated process. To be continually moving forward and working through these issues, it's a very big deal. You definitely deserve a pat on the back. :)

Well.. I not going to toot my own horn, (ok...maybe a little) but I think I can attest to why I have quit smoking, I have (more or less) completely changed my negative attitude towards others (still trying my best...it's hard...i.e. action/reaction changing minds) I've radically changed my diet, and I've entirely changed my outlook towards life and routine exercise,

I now know what it means to be alive per se, facing my own mortality, and I ironically appreciate it. I survive for a reason...I have no other opinion in life that can motivate me. I've seen death in excruciating detail...and nothing else really matters, when you are not living (per se). Those who know, will understand exactly what I am saying. Those who don't, will learn soon enough, and appreciate me for my early perspective in their own lives.

To every musician that keeps a basic understanding of rudimentary time (to the freaking millisecond!) to be truly elite (and mainstream sounding.)) to portray a story or emotion (via an instrument) they can ALL appreciate what it means to live in the now and feel what is right for the people. Be on stage...feel what people feel...what motivates interest in your abilities. It's paramount.

    Whatever...I'm am what I am....
