Apathy:
- Lack of interest or concern, especially regarding matters of general importance or appeal; indifference.
- Lack of emotion or feeling; impassiveness.

i do agree, apathy is a VERY serious problem, and i don't even think it is only within the US. i think too, we as a country - for whatever reason - feel so 'seperate', disconnected from the rest of the world in some way....and that is not a good think imo. we ARE a global community, we should realize that more and more...the wrold is getting smaller and smaller...we should absolutely CARE about ALL the citizens of the world, b/c in turn, it affects us ALL.
