I don't have a problem with AT&T expecting them to pay for the receiver, but the way they did it was a little rude. On the plus side these people will have insurance, so even if they can't pay it right away at most all they will be out is a late payment fee. As far as actually paying off the receiver, that to me is no different than the fact that if they had a car in the garage they would be expected to pay that off, even if it was destroyed in the fire.

Yeah, same here .... I don't care about them having to pay for the receiver, that's expected. But to be dealt with so rudely, when they're in the midst of a crisis ... there's no need for that! Telling them it's all due in a few weeks when they get their next bill is bullshit. It could take them months to sort this out with their insurance company, you'd think AT&T could cut them a little slack.

I can't open the link here at work, but $300 for a receiver? I understand that they are responsible to pay, but you would think that AT&T would maybe be a little considerate and charge them for the "real" cost of the phone.

not that it matters but it was for the sattelite dish receiver. it was the way that AT&T were so rude about demanding the money. and the stupidity, the person that she talked to actually had the nerve to ask her if she had grabbed the receiver on the way out of her burning home....
uh yeah, forget about the kids, the pets, the photos and other irreplaceable items just make sure that you grab the sattelite receiver when running for your safety
I think it would be great if they could get away with going down to the AT&T office of the people that she spoke with and stand in front of them and burn the bill when they get it

UPDATE: Supervisor who gave the family the information that they had to pay for the receiver was terminated on Friday. I work for AT&T and was just waiting for this to come down. Yes we are a fishy company and no I am not happy working here!
Terminated? You mean, you had them shot? Good work!
and just think; the laws in most States in the US have a terminate-at-will policy. I guess this means that your employer can shoot you at will for any or no reason....lol
