Looks like a very nice city, I bet there are poor neighborhoods too (like everywhere) but yes, looks like a nice place to visit.
Kinda shatters those theories that they hate the west for their freedoms and that Iran is a wasteland.

I don't get out much, but I do know that the Iranian population generally does not hate the west. I used to chat w/ Iranians on yahoo chat. They are not too fond of their government and wouldn't mind seeing it get overthrown.
In fact, that's probably why Ahmadinejad keeps his population from posting anti-government blogs. But in its bid to crack down on anti-government bloggers, the government uses one of the most sophisticated internet censorship systems in the world.

As for those pictures dispelling misconceptions..lol. You can take the same photos in communist china.....where the falun gong are systematically kidnapped and tortured to death for practicing a banned religion.

What misconceptions are u talking about? If your talking about religious freedom there is a poplulation of both Christians and Jews in Iran and they are free to practice their religion.0 -
all this *recent* hate between Iran and USA was builted up by you in the US: do you remember so much talking about Iran 3 years ago? The media is fooling you
PS: the aim of this topic is really patheticwww.amnesty.org

hence the big "they want to wipe israel off the map" PR campaign ... seeing as that whole "hate our freedom" thing is not working so hot ...0

I could go take pictures of upscale restaurants/ shopping centers, luxury apartments, treen-lined blvds, bakeries, and grocery stores stocked with food in any capital city of the world but it doesnt mean that it would be an accurate description of that particular country as a whole (or whether a majority of its citizens can afford such luxuries). The less you know, the more you believe.0

Dude, what's your point? You could post a few photos of Mars, if you wanted.0

Apparently the unemployment rate there is just brutal. Their economy is in shambles, and thus their government tries to deflect public scrutiny outward towards Israel and the Great Satan.0 -

True enough. In fact, there have been several Iranian grad students in my department recently. All women ... And all were worried that they would not be able to practice psychology once they returned. The country's populace is trying hard to modernize, but the clerics and their puppet government is doing its level best to stiffle progress.0 -

Comparing the economy of Iran and the disposable income of their average citizen to that of the US is (want to say stupid) not comparable.
I have heard Iran is an alright country to visit but lets be real, your pictures don't dipict the average Iranian and I doubt too many can afford to shop at that upscale mall. The less you know, the more you believe.0 -

do you "know" this or are you just assuming...?0 -

I know their average income is around $70-150 a month so I am assuming they can not afford to shop at the mall and go to the nice cafes that you see in the pictures.
I live in Romania right now where the average person makes somewhere around $150 a month and we have the same high class malls here. Go to a Polo or a Lacoste store as shown his/her picture and the prices will be double what I would have to pay in the states. People go to the malls to window shop, you hardly ever see people walking around with bags of clothes. Having these western stores in no way reflects the 'quality of life' or their purchasing power.
Anyhow- it's the government, not their people that are the problem. Simply trying to point out that there is no way those pictures are representative of the life a majority of the Iranians live. The less you know, the more you believe.0 -
Of course if someone posts pictures of New York and hicksville, USA it will depict different lifestyles, just like in Iran.0
