is how many people did not vote in Canada this election.
that's about 50% of eligible voters...
...and the lowest voter turn out in Canadian History.

I think young voters is a huge issue... likely because no federal party makes a big effort to focus on any of our needs...

...still sad none the less.

Any thoughts?
Is it this bad in the States as well?

yeah, about 50% turnout. on a good election. I think this one will be higher, since W had his 8 years to ruin everything, but yeah, pretty pathetic.

The parties don't focus on the needs of the young because they know that young people don't vote. That is why campaigns always spend time at senior’s homes (because old people always vote). If more young people voted you would see way more campaigning at universities and more issues discussed. Now I know you could say the reason young people don't vote is because no one focuses on them, but the fact is I think it would be easier for voters to change first and politicians respond than vice versa.

    Way to go Canada!!!

No excuse for this. The Maple Leafs weren't even playing yesterday for Christ Sakes!!!

Pretty pathetic that the country would rather sit back and watch the US election than actually involve themselves in their own politics at home.

I think a lot more people actually watched the Canadian debates this time than previously.

I am from PEI which always has one of the highest voter turnouts :) Out here I can't believe how few people vote... and well who the vote for shocks me even more :p

pei was definitely the result of vote-splitting - the conservative candidate won by like 60 votes ... the ndp and green combined for almost 2,300 ...

    EXACTLY
    its a vicious cycle...

i read somewhere that someone suggested that Obama needs to stop trying to pull votes out of hte Republican pool but out of the people who don't vote at all.... i think that's what the politicians should do up here as well...

there was ONE party, one given day, at my Campus... and they didn't even talk about ridiculous tuition.

Nice to see the no confidence option on the ballot btw...

well, i still can't believe that people believe dinosaurs lived among humans and don't care about trying to save the planet since Jesus is gonna come back and save themselves anyways.

and this is the kind of person that i'm dealing with. :)

whatever, the flinestones were buddhists, (weren't they?) so i'm willing to make an exception with my extremely-radical-evolution beliefs!
plus wilma's sense of style is just sensational, how can you argue with that?
