Is there any groups actively campaigning against them, or campaigning to keep safety and health standards up to par?
We're America. Maintaining safety and health standards is the norm. And no, no one worries about them. That was 2 out of 5 because it was the Cliffs Notes. There's something like 70 operating in the United States. Plus, Chernobyl is a Russian site. Or rather it was... There are always fringe groups bitching about something. But as for nuclear power activists; they're rather meek."Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

Well lets just pray peace prevails. You guys probably have some American made weaponry, and God knows we don't need any of that being used for what it was intended for.
Who the hell would want to invade Australia anyway? George W. Bush, that's who! <Cue Bonanza theme music>"Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

I'm sure your safety standards are exemplorary but you are saying that no one is concerned about them, or that generally you are unaware of any objections to them? I wasn't talking about fringe groups I was asking about people opposed to them? Do you ever get to hear from them, or is the information always slanted in favor of the reactor?NOPE!!!

Ok, no one ever thinks about nuclear power here. It's never in the news. There's never any news about folks speaking out about it. There's also never news about someone talking about how great it is.
They're just there on the side of interstates to look at on your way to a vacation. Nuclear power gets no more or less attention in the United States than does soccer. And let me tell you, soccer gets very little attention in the United States."Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

Yes, we probably do have some American made weaponry although much of it was destroyed in the gun amnesty and buy back scheme here after the Port Arthur Massacre.
And as far as I can see corporate America has been invading us for years, along with the Japanese and any other foreign owned multi national that smells a dollar! Won't be going on much longer though. Johnny's sold pretty much everything out from under us! Oh that's right he still hasn't managed to get granny!!
Oh and as far as I can see thumbing, just from being on the board in the touchy feely threads, there seems to be an inordinate amount of Americans who are invading because they think we have an accent and they seem to be quite taken with it!!!Isn't that right cate?
NOPE!!!

When you said "clever girl" to Cate in the other Australian themed thread, it did make me think of the guy in Jurassic Park. Not in a sexual kind of way, but more of a "Hey, that guy sounds Australian" kind of way.
Then I pictured you all sweaty and panting while you were saying it, like he was. Maybe blondes aren't so bad..."Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

Is that because your media has been hijacked by Rupert too? Just like ours has been? Do you think? I'm just wondering. I mean you are the country that brought us Meryl Streep and Cher in Silkwood. Surely there are advocates and detractors?
As to soccer, well it's really not a big deal here either, well it was with the world cup, but we are Aussie Rules Football and Rugby fanatics here.
Besides I thought you guys coined the phrase "soccer Mum's"?NOPE!!!

I'm struggling to recall the scene or the dialogue. Jurrasic Park scares the shit out of me. But if you mean Sam Neill he's a KIWI!!!:D:D
And cate is exceptionally clever. No panting required:)
And I'm not going there! But I will say that I think I said mostly blonde!
Mostly I'm an extremely clever brunette with an exceptional hairdresser!!NOPE!!!

haha We also brought you Cher signing on an aircraft carrier. Though I'm almost positive that piece of dental floss she had wound around her wasn't a flight suit.
I love rugby but mums are perennials. Not sure what they have to do with soccer. They're very pretty though.

This is true. American women go instantly gooey when they hear an Aussie accent. Its weird. I don't usually really have that effect on women. I wasn't really sure how to deal with it.It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

Oh was she? Bit hard to notice with all the SAILORS!!!
Guess you're not a Desperate Housewives fan then! Coz Lynette Scavo is all soccer mum.
Good night thumbing. Nice chatting.NOPE!!!

I read the first couple of pages of this and since there wan't any response to it there, Didn't Australia embark on constructing a massive solar engergy station in the middle of the continent a few years ago? It was supposed to be capapble of powering most of Australia before all was said and done. What happened to that? I am fairly certain this was approved and begun.

Yeah, I think you're right gue. Not sure what happened really. I'm pretty sure it got going. Just don't think it's become a mainstream energy supply. And we have also been tinkering with wind turbines too. Not that I'm any expert.NOPE!!!

Never heard of it. Where did you read this?
In the middle of the continent would be a pretty bad place to put it really. Lots of flat ground and sun for sure, but you'd have to get the electricity to the major population centres, which are all on the coast, mostly the east coast. It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!
