I'm informed by many sources. Books, for one. Life and all the wide-ranges of life experience that goes on in the natural world. The universe is intelligent, and we are communicated with vast amounts of information in every moment, if we're not distracting ourselves with, say, TV. Evolution is filled with information to direct us in healthy adaptive ways, when we're not too tuned out from reality.

well i can clearly see you and i occupy different realities. but then again ive always known that.

reality comes down to perspective and cant be deconstruced down to one homogenous entity. take history for example. the history we read about is the history of the educated, the victorious, the powerful. it rarely, if ever takes into account the many varied realities of all those who lived through it.

Whether we come from different perspectives, it seems we both agree on my main point, here...TV and the general media aren't necessarily "real"....

I learn from life all the time. From life experiences. And from books. And from places like this board that represents many different views.

tv and general media are real. but they are one perspective of reality, of which there are many. they represent the dominant hegemony of the state usually supported by special interest groups, who always have an agenda which often puts them at odds with those who disagree with, or do not benefit from what that agenda is. or the dominant hegemony is created from those special interest groups under the guise of governmental policy.

Yeah of course we all do BUT how can I have an opinion and disagree with another person's views when I don't read about it and when I don't research the topic, that's were I was going.

I'm sure 2 people could sit down and have a convo on say Egypt and never touched a newspaper but maybe they read a lot of books, or about global warming but the election? Senator Obama's record? What kind of person he is? How can you have such a strong opinion about this? You couldn't have possibly read this in books, or did you?

I didn't say I don't research a topic. That's what you assumed. I'm very well educated. I'm just not educated by formal mainstream systems.

If my view is invalid, you're welcome to show how it's invalid. Until it is shown invalid, it stands.

I'm talking about this topic in particular for example the happenings of this election while it was happening, you said you don't read the news, so I'm wondering where were you getting your information regarding the current events if it wasn't from the news either printed or on TV or radio...

Current events are not documented on books, at least not yet, where you do get your information is what I'm curious about I guess.

Again, I said I do my research. I have a strong background in studies of power imbalances, and psychology which underly all human interactions. Given that, all I need to do is know what is going on, and I'd have to live under a rock to not....and then my specific expertise in the basis of politics--the distribution of power--shows itself.

For an example, if an article on obama is presented in a thread here, you can be very assured that I will read the article and know what's happening before I respond. And that I will hear and take steps to understand ALL views that are expressed on the topic. Many people like to devalue other people's views, and will therefore understand only a small sliver of any given situation. I choose to understand as much about it from every perspective as I can. IGoing to my TV set, or a magazine for the answers isn't even a close option in understanding any situation at hand.

I'm not so sure it would be the best term to use. I mean a right wing hack piece on Obama came out last summer with the same name.
