Take the test! See how you do! And please don't spoil it for others.

This applies to cyclists, and to all the others things we are conditioned to gloss over in life, from nature, to reality, to overt, deceptive political moves.........

I can't count how many times I've been run off the road as a cyclist. ONce on purpose and that same driver crashed after I quickly avoided being hit by his car. I've even had dreams I would be killed that way but still I ride cause I love to power my racing Raleigh R800 2004.

I took the test and here's a note from WABA here in DC....

WABA's Response to the Death of a Cyclist in DC
As many of you may have heard, Alice Swanson, a 22-year old cyclist from Washington, DC, was struck and killed yesterday morning by a trash truck at the intersection of 20th and R Streets, NW in Washington, DC. This tragedy has hit the cycling community in the DC area hard, and serves as a reminder that much more work remains to be done to make the Washington area a place where anyone who wants to ride can do so safely.

In response, this evening starting at 6:30pm at the intersection of Connecticut Ave and R Street NW, WABA will be holding a press conference to call for a full investigation into the crash and to highlight the need for improved traffic enforcement, increased penalties for drivers who strike cyclists and pedestrians, and more safety public service announcements to encourage everyone to share the road safely. The event will also feature a "ghost bike" dedication to serve as a reminder of the tragedy and as a quiet statement in support of cyclists' right to safe travel. I hope that you will be able to join us.

On behalf of the staff and board of directors of WABA I want to thank you for all your support for better bicycling. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at waba@waba.org.

    Please ride safely.

    Sincerely,

    Eric Gilliland
    Executive Director

I won't bike anywhere near a road...even though it's illegal here, I always bicycle on the sidewalk...even when we have bicycle lanes. (I also will go wayyy off into the grass so as to not infringe on side-walkers rights)

It's appalling how inconsiderate/unaware people are. When I see I cyclist, I get into another lane, or otherwise leave enough room going around them, that should they fall, I would not inadvertantly kill/maim them!

  • It's all about drivers that constantly seem to deliver the infamous right hook. Those self absorbed drivers that speed ahead of you, then doddle about while taking their right hand turn (and by this point have also hopelessly clued out about of their most/all of their immediate surroundings) so that you have to hit the brakes hard to avoid crashing into them as they cut right in front of you.

It's these out of touch drivers that cause the majority of accidents and fatalities.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.
