this is so great to see. with the Iraq war end in sight (when bush leaves office), fatah and abbas ready to talk peace, and now this, I believe the world has a good chance at seeing peace.

and maybe lower the ridiculous thread level from "orange". anywho, I'm very happy to ready this article.

LONDON (AFP) - Britain's main umbrella group of Muslim organisations on Tuesday strongly condemned the three failed car bomb attacks here, calling for cross-community efforts to tackle the extremist threat.

"Those who seek to deliberately kill or maim innocent people are the enemies of us all," said Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary-general of the moderate Muslim Council of Britain.

Speaking at a news conference at the MCB's east London headquarters, Bari said there was "no cause whatsoever" to justify the attempted bomb attacks in central London early Friday and at Glasgow airport on Saturday afternoon.

"Those who engage in such murderous actions and those that provide support for them are the enemies of us all, Muslims and non-Muslims, and they stand against our shared values in the United Kingdom," he added.

Bari's comments come amid continued concern among some sections of Britain's 1.6-million-strong Muslim community about radicalisation as well as government and police efforts to tackle it.

There have been complaints since the September 11, 2001, attacks in the United States that the Muslim community has been unfairly targeted after a series of high-profile raids.

Those concerns were exacerbated following the July 7, 2005, attacks on London, in which four British Islamist extremists blew themselves up on the capital's public transport network, killing 52 others and injuring over 700.

while I agree that this is necessary that peace talks must occur and they must be condemned; I'm still reminded of the old adage...actions speak louder than words. But I am very glad they are talking and condemning; I just hope they start making a difference.

I'm not sure about the End of the Iraq War... more like the End of Amrerican Military Operations in Iraq, but Iraq is going to see war for probably the next 5 to 10 years (whether we are in their country or not).
    ...
And I hope this is a catalyst... moderate Arabs and their leaders stepping up and helping the rest of the world put an end to violent extremism. They also need to turn in those who they know of that are planning terro attacks.
    ...
But, this would mean 'snitching' on them... something I have read is frowned upon by many members of this board. But, not me. I I found out that Eddie Vedder was planning a car bomb at an airport... I'd drop a dime on his ass in an instant.

More moderate Muslims need to speak out against these acts. They can make such a huge difference when it comes to curbing radical Islam.

I completely agree... but, words alone won't do shit. they need to take ACTION. Turn in their own countrymen who are plotting these attacks.
we see the same thing here with our gangs... everyone says, "Something needs to be done", yet, no one turns these guys over to the cops. Sentiment and action is what it is going to take. Terrorists will not be defeated by Armies... they will be contained by good old fashioned police work.

check out this video... its a discussion on BBC's Newsnight programme. They have a former extreamist on it. Listen to what he says within the first 2mins. This is what the problem is with Islam. It seems a lot of them just think any life that is not an islamic life is not right and therefore forefeit.
The muslim groups can condemn all they want but they got to start teaching their congregations tollerance and bring islam into the 21st centuary.
