  • I don't know about the greatest but it was pretty funny I must admit!

  • I tend to think the best piece of satire was arguably the very first. 'A Modest Proposal' is hilarious and sharp social commentary.

    Borat was excellent though.
'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

  • I think I'm the only person on the board woh really didn't care for the movie.
It had funny moments, but as a whole I thought it was weak.

I think the slapstick was greater than the satire in this case. I mean, it didn't reveal anything I didn't already know.

The hotel scene may be the funniest thing ever put on film.

I agree. The original Ali G series in the UK (with Borat inserts), was mildly provocative, but it was a one trick pony. See one episode, you've seen the whole series. You don't need a whole film, to labour the point to death.

nope, not the only one. I agree 100%
  • I can't wait to see it. I think it boils down to style. Everyone has a certain style they put out there and either you like it or you don't. With Borat I think it's either you love it or you hate it...there's not a lot of room for the in between.
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I think the Ali G series is great. I havent seen the movie yet, but a couple of friends said it was basically the exact same stuff as the show and they were a bit disappointed.

The movie is incredibly well structured. I mean take the fact that he's chasing the 'american dream'. He actually travels west which alludes to the settlers going west for prosperity and success. And what is he chasing? A chest with blonde hair. Inevitably he's met with frustration and failure, and when he's down and out who pounces on him and manipulates his situation? Envangelists. The movie is a quick witted and incisive look at modern america. Also for those who forget, the purpose of the movie is to explicitly expose predjudice and show how it's everywhere you look. Whats pising me off is the way people say "Aww, those por people,he just exploited them", I mean after hearing what they've said how can you sympathise with them?
