So, the reaction you and others are giving is based on the presumption that some dumb American is going to say 'honey, I think we made a mistake when we voted democrat' after seeing this video? Come on, give a little credit to the dumb leftist hick in the Northeast blue states.

I would prefer to just see the reality....the tape was released by the Al Qeuda terrorists organization to embolden themselves and say they are winning the war of the minds of the American people.

I know that is hard to swallow, because that is what the right has been saying all along. But it doesn't change us, it just shows these are the tools they are using to achieve their goals and they think it is working. I don't know that they are smart enough to understand us and what this really means to us, I am not even sure....but so far it has all been predictable.

This is the third time that I have repeated this quote from a thread last night and no one has dared rebute it yet (thank you DPrival78) . Tell me that this quote doesn't reflect the tone of the last 5 years in America and that the release of "terrorist" media (which was hard to find pre 9/11) doesn't aid in what the quote implies:
"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Wow. Swing and a miss there. That quote is about how populations of people are controlled with fear and patriotism. The current administration in the States has undeniably employed this tactic on Americans. It seems to be working somewhat too.

Also: World War 2 (in Europe) wasn't solely about the Germans and the Jews. It actually came from the Treaty of Versailles, which left the Germans with nothing to live for but revenge after World War 1. This allowed Hitler to use fear and patriotism to gain power and carry out his plans. But, I'm sure that you knew that.

Dead on. On the first point, people are essentially lemmings. They will follow people that curb their fear of offer a better life. That's happening on both sides of the coin: Americans got swept up in the wave of patriotism on Iraq, me included. Now, Bush is trying to keep support for what he is doing via these means. The 'terrorists' are a function of a similar effect of point two. They feel like they have nothing to lose, so they strike out with what they have.

As a side note, the war on terror cannot be 'won'. These militants are fighting for an idea, you can't kill an idea, no matter how perverse it may be. This shit is going to go on well after we are in our graves.

sorry you think that. I disagree.
  • you're even more hopeless than i thought.

    1. we cannot obliterate terrorism, it is an ideology not a combative enemy. you cannot obliterate pasificism either.

    2. this is like veitnam only in the sense that we shouldn't have been there and nobody (including most of the natives) wants us there. we just chose it as an arbitrary location to battle a shadowy menace (terrorism, communism).

    3. good job on ignoring my first post. i am not a left wing ideologue. i just think bush is doing a shit job of making us safer and his mindless backers in congress werent helping. so them being gone is a good thing. and this video doesnt mean a godamn thing... except that the people who always wanted to kill us still want to kill us just as much as they ever did. is that a sign that bush was breaking their will? i dont think so.

I am not hopeless, really I was just throwing out the problems of humankind that have plagued us before and will again. Obliterate terrorists is different that obliterating terrorism, and I think we agree that ridding us of every terrorist is not possible with weapons.

Just letting off a little steam earlier with that last statement of prediction. I try to be positve most the time, but occassionally as I did this morning, I went to the dark side :)

Mainly, I just stated that the terrorists think they are doing the right thing, so they would naturally continue based on their statements that they think the proof is in the election.

the terrorists are playing politics too. the dems won so they say "look, we're winning cos america is changing its mind!" if the republicans had won they'd have released a video saying "look, the americans continue to hold firm to their bloodthirsty imperialism! we must take up arms!" it didnt matter who won the election, they had their pr in place for either contingency. this video means nothing. it just happened to get out in public for one reason or another.
  • Yep, it's only a matter of time since the Dem's gained some seats in Congress. If only the GOP could stay in power forever then we would all be safe but no the voters had to go fuck it up by giving in to the terrorists.

How can a rational thinking person swallow such ridiculous bullshit?

    good points

Why would anyone lend credence to propaganda videos in the first place?

To control Americans, yes. If you can't see that is the tactic that he is using, then you are blind. He is abusing people like you that trust their president for to carry out of war for profit. Unless, of course, you just come on here and spout BS to get a rise out of people and you don't actually think that Iraq is about anything other than money.
