Politicians a joke?

I have been a political junkie in some ways for at least 15 years, beginning with college polsci and intl bus courses, then talk radio and npr and cspan. Even went to the Inaguration of GW 2000 with wife and kids because I found it pretty cool to be in DC and all that is offered there historically and share such an experience with my kids.

But I am pretty busy these days and travel alot, and don't get a lot of time to really pay attention. I realize that I don't even know much about who is running in my district, or state. Anyway, that isn't the point but leads to it.

So, now when I take a look at cable news shows, read papers, read the net, I am getting the sense (especially with the Foley bit) about how stupid they all are and how everything is sensationalized. Where is the focus on real issues? It seems to get worse all the time.

The other day I heard a Sen canidate in KS who is running against Rep incumbent and she is defending her statement that Bush wanted blacks to die in Katrina and that is why he didn't respond. I am like WTF??? Now maybe she doesn't believe it but is wanting to get black voters, but what does that say about blacks?!?

I could go on, Hassert defending himself like the fat slob he is, Kennedy is always ranting about something like he thinks it is the 60's, media types like Chris Mathews who think they are saying something really important, Keith O a fucking blowhard (who does make me laugh), Hillary and her pandering, McCain who panders, Bush who is not listening, Bill Clinton who is still talking about himself, Arnold who is always mispeaking, etc, etc.

It is just one f'ed up deal....our whole political system is completely seen through the eyes of the lens, and it seems more like a reality TV show than actual reality.

Anyway, they are all just full of shit and I want my country back. Anyone else sense this? I am just blowing off, but whatever...

I have to agree...it's treated more like a sport..."my team will kick you teams ass" kind of thinking...

honestly, I think the internet or internets, depending on who you ask, has much to do with it...statements like the one you mentioned would have faded into the backround in years past, but today, with instant information sharing, video cameras everywhere (somebody should have told G. Allen), and bloggers...

I think politics have become "entertainment"...and people are watching...
