The Underlying issue with the bailouts

I know I may sound a bit unpatriotic, but I have a question about America's economic fundamentals. People always talk about the American dream as being free from government regulation and being able to do as you wish (start a business, earn millions, etc). How is it that the freedom to succeed isn't coming with the freedom to fail? If it is so unAmerican for the government to step in and hurt your chances at success, why is it ok for them to alter your failure?
Is it possible we are seeing that capitalism and free markets really don't work?

i'm closer to thinking democracy doesn't work. idiots electing idiots.
Yes and yes.
But WE DON'T HAVE A DEMOCRACY.
WE HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC and there is a HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Our republic is IN SHAMBLES along with its constitutional underpinning, and if we were actually FOLLOWING IT we would NOT be in this mess.
THE FEDERAL RESERVE, or ANY CENTRAL BANK for that matter, IS NOT AUTHORIZED BY THE CONSTITUTION.
The power to regulate coin is authorized EXPRESSELY TO THE CONGRESS ... they can NOT (by law of the constitution) assign that right away to some 3rd party like The Federal Reserve. IT IS A VIOLATION OF OUR CONSTITUTION to do so. A congressional act (like the one creating the Fed) can NOT violate the constitution ! ! ! IT IS ILLEGAL!
THAT IS WHY WE ARE IN THIS MESS.
Once again, from Jefferson's own mouth.
READ THIS FOLKS. IT MATTERS:
"If the America people ever allow private banks to control the issuance of their currencies, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their prosperity until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." - Thomas Jefferson
The power to "coin money" must be restored to the CONGRESS, the ONLY agency with the constitutional authority to do so.
Other wise,
"the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their prosperity".
Sound about right?
I don't think people understand just how SIMPLE AND FUNDAMENTAL this principle is.
BANKERS HAVE STOLEN YOUR COUNTRY FOLKS.
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHETHER CAPITALISM WORKS OR NOT ...
If we were following the framework of our most fundamental and supreme law, THIS COULD NOT HAPPEN!
Again.
WATCH THIS MOVIE:
THE MONEY MASTERS ! ! !
If I opened it now would you not understand?
You know, money, markets and investing interest me some and I like to think I'm a little more knowledgeable about them then some people, but the information you continually post is well above my head. Furthermore, you talk like it's some science fiction movie and all the capitalized letters and larger, bold fonts make it seem as if the things you are trying to say are a bit fanatical or maniacle.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
maybe you could just watch that movie then.
It isn't exactly rocket science.
Once you understand the sick history the bankers have with our country, you will start to get a bit fanatical your self ... god willing. Certainly several of our finest presidents felt the same way.
If I opened it now would you not understand?
i'm not sure if you're yelling at me, but i agree with you. i said democracy doesn't work, i didn't say we had a democracy.
it's not yelling.
it's emphasis.
If I opened it now would you not understand?
it's annoying .... to read.
seriously, you make intersting points in many of your posts, but, your "emphasis" (as you call it) doesn't help, I'm guessing more poeple turn away from reading your posts because of it.
Selective emphasis would be much more helpful to your cause.
just trying to be helpful

That's exactly what I was trying to say. It's difficult to take the information seriously when the mental image you get in your head is of someone standing on a street corner with shaggy hair and dressed in a robe screaming at people waking by.

while I agree there is more to this than "Bush did it" ... or "Fire Chainman Cox" ... quoting and believing a editorial, or opinion piece, probably isn't the right answer either. I mean, the piece generally blames congress (democrats) for wanting to help underpriviledged people ... but, c'mon ... banks weren't crying at all when they were making all these loans and raking in the money. And I'll guess it was far more than the loans of underprivlidged minorities that were defaulted. With no stats to back this up, it's a reach to say this WAS the issue.
Many people were complicitous in this crisis for many reasons ... Deregulation, Vote-chasing, greed ... but, there's this need by most to blame one person, one reason, to make it easy to pin point where blame must lie (According to McCain, it's Obama's fault ... ) ... but, it's a slew of people, and many reasons.
