Police: Man shot churchgoers over liberal views
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Mon Jul 28, 11:02 AM

Knoxville's police chief says the man accused of a shooting that killed two people at a Tennessee church targeted the congregation because of its liberal social stance.

Chief Sterling Owen IV said Monday that police found a letter in Jim D. Adkisson's car. Owen said Adkisson was apparently frustrated over being out of work and had a "stated hatred of the liberal movement."

Adkisson is charged with first-degree murder. Police say a gunman entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church during a children's performance Sunday. No children were hurt.

The church is known for advocating women's and gay rights and founding an American Civil Liberties Union chapter.

First of all shame on you for making light of violence and death.

Secondly, it was a liberal church.

Wonder how many of the overly-liberal/overly-PC will be sympathetic to this lunatic shooter, now.
  • Didn't mean to offend anyone. Death is just a part of life in my opinion, so I can make light of it if I want. I'm glad at least some of you were able to get a chuckle out of it.

    This is pathetic.

How many times do we have to hear about churches supposedly preaching violence and hate, and yet we have major hypocrites on this board who will preach the same violence and hate as long as it goes against a church?

This is pretty much similar to what that moronic church in Kansas does when it protests (ie celebrates) the deaths of military people.

Basically, it's OK to make a joke about someone getting murdered as long as it isn't "your own kind", huh?

Who's preaching violence and hate against this church? Or any church, for that matter?

Clearly you misinterpreted something someone said (don't even know if you're refering to me) and you're over-reacting to it.

No where in this thread is anyone celebrating the death of the victims, of this lunatic shooter.

But feel free to point out where exactly you perceive celebration.

You're right. I screwed up. I thought the OP was saying there would be less conservatives voting because of the people who were killed. I see now they were referring to the gunman, although I do think it's in poor taste to make fun of a very unfortunate situation.

I would consider Jesus a liberal, without a doubt

at least he was until the reagan era conservative movement hijacked the religion and made Jesus their mascot

I wouldn't even dignify Fred Phelps by calling his little family a "church." Freddo is nothing more than a meth-using child abuser who hides behind religion for tax purposes. His only "church" membership is his direct family. And they're all lawyers.

yeah, my thread last week wasn't funny either...

apparently it was OK for John McCain to bomb schools in North Vietnam but his subsequent torture and imprisonment wasn't deemed funny by you...or ironic at least.

I'd say he wouldn't follow any group that is full of crap...I wonder how many christian sec's, since there are over 200, if any, he would consider worthy? Or even better, how many of them would accept anyone claiming to be Jesus on faith alone, without having to turn water to wine, etc....?

Death is part of life, you're right about that. Everyone dies. It shouldn't be because of senseless murder though. That stuff just isn't funny. Sorry. Besides, as some have pointed out already, your little "joke" didn't even make sense.

i thought the most ironic thing about this shooting was that the guy was pissed off because his food stamps were going to stop coming to him. food stamps seem to be a pretty liberal program.
