A subsidiary of the group was paid $800,000 by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign to register voters for the 2008 primaries, and ACORN's political wing endorsed Obama back in February. ACORN was an organization created to fight what was know in the banking industry as "Red Lining". Back prior to the Community Reinvestment Act banks would draw a red line around neighborhoods, usually lower class minority neighborhoods, and deny any applicant from that neighborhood any type of loans. This was done regardless of the person's income or credit score. The Community Reinvestment Act forced banks to abandon this type of discriminatory lending practice and also forced banks to become involved in their communities, by donating to local causes or employee volunteer work. ACORN was an organization that pushed this and still does to this day. Do I condone ACORN's actions if they did try to carry out voter fraud, no definitely not, but don't sit there ranting about ACORN forcing banks to give money to unqualified applicants because guess what the government nor any organization CAN FORCE A BANK TO GIVE SOMEONE A LOAN. They can only make sure that banks are not discriminating against applicants based on anything besides their financials. I'm so tired of uninformed individuals blaming the current crisis on poor people because guess what there are more fixed rate prime A paper loans defaulting now than sub-prime. Please I beg become more informed.

The problem with your agrument is that banks where not giving loans to minorities because they where minorities. That was what "Red Lining" was. If you where from a poor black neighborhood but had good credit and a job you would have no way of getting a loan because anyone from your neighborhood was automatically black listed because of "Red Lining". I didn't get this information from ACORN, I got it from my girlfriend who has worked in the banking industry for over 10 years.

I posted an article about it last week. I will try to find it again but it basically stated that Fixed rate mortgage defaults had surpassed sub-prime. You have to think, not everyone loosing their home had a sub-prime mortgage. Think of all the jobs lost over the past year. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan Chase, also stated that we would see a sharp increase in fixed rate A paper mortgage defaults because of job lose in this down economy.

I sent you a PM, but I will also post my response here. The initial article I posted I can not find, but I do recall it in detail. It stated that there are more Fixed prime mortgage foreclosures than Sub Prime ARM. What the article did not show was that the vast majority of mortgages are Fixed Prime. Below is the contents of my PM to you.

While a higher percentage of Sub Prime ARM mortgages have gone into default (foreclosure). 6.8% of all outstanding mortgages where/are Sub Prime ARM mortgages. Out of those 43% have been, or in the process of being, foreclosed. 6.3% of all outstanding mortgages where/are Sub Prime Fixed and out of those 12% have been, or are in the process of being, foreclosed. Fixed Arm make up 14.5% of all outstanding mortgages while 18.7% have been foreclosed. Now Prime Fixed constitute 63.1% of all outstanding mortgages. Out of these 17.6% have been, or are in the process of being, foreclosed. The initial article I read did not break it down this way, and sort of painted a half truth. While in sheer numbers more Fixed prime foreclosures have been recorded, simply because of the large majority they represent, they do have a lower rate of default than Sub Prime ARM mortgages.

So my initial state is a bit misleading. While it is true that there is more Fixed Rate foreclosures the information did not paint the whole picture. Hopefully the new information I found will paint a clearer picture, with a more specific and detailed breakdown, of mortgage foreclosures.
