on Veteran's Day? Personally, I don't think it is...it is a day to remember those who served in the various wars...they did not fight these wars so that people can save money at JC Penny or Macy's...Veteran's Day (or Rembrance Day as it is called in Canada and possibly Britain) is NOT a holiday...it's a day to take time to remember wars past and your relatives who may have served or who are currently serving in yet another war...

Where I live, the shops and malls are closed for at least half the day so that we can observe our 2 minutes of silence for those who died in conflict...it just seems rather abhorrant to be thinking about how much money I can save on a new handbag or shoes. That is so not what those people died/are dying for... Respect the Veterans!

They fought to defend our freedoms, right? That includes the freedom to shop, I suppose. And if you see someone shopping, you have no idea how they've spent the rest of their day, whether the honored the veterans in some way or not. I think it's best if we all mind our own business.

They also fought for your right to be free to be blissfully ignorant or willfully apathetic about it.

I'm not saying it's a bit unfortunate, but its true.
You cant force me to celebrate wars past here in america.
    ;)

Allthough, i suppose i'll spend a moment or two in reflection.

I see your point - obviously I don't care if somebody shops on Nov 11th or not...I just took exception to a Macy's ad on TV advertizing a "Veteran's Day" Sale...like it's another pointless "holiday"....another reason to have a sale... Maybe I think this whole Iraq thing could be bettered if people spent Nov 11th thinking about what's really going on over there, take a stand, acknowledge it - or take some time to feed a homeless veteran instead of celebrating another opportunity to buy things for cheap...

I don't know...maybe in Canada we have a whole different idea about Nov 11th... we're all cenotaphs and poppies..The Last Post and two minutes of silence at 11am of the 11th day of the 11th month...

I honestly don't give a fuck anymore.. I have relatives who fought in wars.. Just an altercation fought on a bigger scale IMO. People are designed to fight. We're are all the same.. whether it was so and so stand up for so and so, we are where we are now, so continue with your life routine.. a day of rememberance is nothing more than a state of mind.. I say move on. Respect those around you and who've died represent an opinion that resembles yours, but don't bend your life around it. It makes no sense.

Thats my opinion though.. it's just as valid as any.. I'm not the type of person who obsesses with birthdays, holidays and so on.. it just a cycle relating in our earths orbit around our sun. Nothing more. Get over it.. live EVERY day/moment like its special because it is.. No need to obsess with the location of the earth at a particular time on its 365 day cycle around the sun.

Again, obviously nothing is going stop people from shopping and getting on with their lives. The point is that the USA is currently at war and any veteran's day while that is happening should be sacrosanct. Veterans Day is not a holiday...it is a day to take a moment to reflect on and remember those who have fallen, faught, or are fighting in a war. You know, show a little respect to the Veterans...Your life can and does move on. A corporation like Macy's really should not be distracting people from what Nov 11 is really about.
