I've watched Keith Olbermann for awhile now, and I've decided to start a blog about him and his show. I find myself offended by how he delivers news, because as a news reporter you are supposed to be objective, and he is anything but. I'm an independent, and have no idea who I will vote for in the election. But I find this to be something worth writing about, and I would appreciate it if you would all find the time to take a look, the site is http://www.theolberblog.blogspot.com. Thanks!

    That makes you mad?

He is no more or less subjective than any other media outlet, and i'm not even talking about fox.

At least he isn't some shit head Project Mockingbird scum.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

It does make me mad. He is the least objective of all major media outlets, and I'm not liberal or conservative. When a news person says "Mr. Bush: Shut The Hell Up", it's inexcusable. You are supposed to deliver facts, not inject your own opinion. That's why I did this. Again, you may not agree with things that the President does. It doesn't give you the right to say some of the things that he does every night on television. It's improper journalism, plain and simple.

Actualy, it DOES give him the right.
    Its called the first ammendment.

I fully agree that it is "improper" journalism,
however, i'm not sure how it is any worse than a guy like Bill O'Reilly.

If people in America are too stupid to discern "unbiased" journalism from the crap they see all over television, then we're all fucked any how.

You are correct, he does have the RIGHT to do it. I'm not sure how he can in good conscious, there could be slander law suits brought against him nearly every night. I think the difference between him and folks on Fox News, CNN, etc. is that they might have a slight bias, but he takes it to a complete extreme. But you are correct. If people take what he says as pure fact, we are in a world of trouble.

I think this is sort of like Alex Jones.

Sure what they say is inflamatory and highly derrogatory towards their "victims", however (at least in AJ's case, i can't really vouch for much Olberman) what is said is actually true.

And you can't bring a slander suit against someone that is telling the truth.
Well actualy, you could BRING the suit, but you would probably lose, and in doing so you actualy bring even more negative attention to the truth of your dirty deeds.

This is like when E Howard Hunt brought a defamation suit against a magazine for claiming he was involved in the JFK assassination, and he lost.

He only served to bring more scrutiny upon his involvement.

Of course, 20 years later the motherfucker actualy confesses on his deathbed, but oh fucking well.

    ;)

I'm not sure everything he says is truth. He says some very malicious things about President Bush (warranted, I know, but still malicious), as well as other Republicans which are not just facts that he states, he often is just giving opinion. He even rails on Hillary Clinton, often criticizing her while praising Obama at every chance he gets. Again, if that's your opinion there's nothing wrong with that, but it does not belong on a news program.

Edit: Case and point, he along with other Democrats argued that votes needed to be counted in Florida in the 2000 election. Here we are in '08, and he mocks the fact that Hillary Clinton wants to count the votes in the primary from Florida. He puts this on his program, and it's no longer news but propaganda.

i think most people wopuld argue that his show is a rare and needed counterpoint to all of the right-wing horse and pony cable "news" shows. if you don't like him, don't watch him. kinda simple. and a bit less obsessive than starting a blog. :D

Propaganda? About what? Florida broke the primary schedule. They were warned, they did it anyway. And the comparison between the Florida primary and the 2000 general election is a stretch - for one, because there is no constitutional right to vote in a primary. These are party rules, and political parties can pick their candidates any way they want - votes, delegates, drawing straws, whoever can pee the furthest, picking the black pickled egg at Moe's tavern, anything.

I watch Olbermann, too; and he doesn't hide his bias - and it's not exactly a "news" broadcast in the strictest sense. Sure, there are stories, but they're usually political rather than business, criminal reporting, etc. As someone said up-thread, it's more of a counterpoint to O'Reilly than network Evening News type broadcasts. He's even joked that his "stories" are really just reiterated Hillary Clinton press releases (though that was back before the campaign).

Yeah, but at times he tries to be serious, and at other times a complete joke. He blurs the line of news and journalism with propaganda and opinion. They should just put him on primetime on NBC, because he's funnier to watch than the sitcoms which are meant to be funny.
