American ready for blackman as president or woman for first time?

IMO i think that a woman would become president before a blackman in America. I know that this a sad statement, but i do belive it is very true. I mean look no further than the poor neighborhoods devestated by hurricane katrina and how the black man was treated in this day and age. It goes to show you that we have not come as far as we think.

i think the opposite. i think americans are more likely to vote for a black man than a woman. obama is a black man that talks like a white man, so he'll be ok. he's an acceptable uncle tom negro who has assimilated into white culture rather than talking like a hip hop gangsta. a black man like that will be ok with most americans. but a woman is too threatening to rednecks anxious to prove they're not racist but who cannot stand the thought of their baby's mamma being on equal footing. it's a catch-22 for women... if you're a feminine woman they will say you're too weak and indecisive for leadership positions, if you're an aggressive woman they will say you're a bull-dyke bitch. i think women have it worse than african-americans these days. the reason it looks otherwise is that the latter group is just poorer.

Would it also be a statement if it were the opposite--A black man before a woman? I would think so, as either way, someone is essentially getting discriminated against at the polls. Just checking.

By the way, I think you are right. The only people with the tag "blackman" I can think of are former Dallas Maverick Rolando Blackman and former Spike Lee Nike endorsement personality Mars Blackman. And I don't see either of them becoming president
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.

Lets say it was downt to McCain and Obama (fingers crossed)...Obama will get....Independents, Liberals, minorities,(all muslims, 95% of black vote), women, pro-choice, anti war, democrat, current and ex drug users (now thats a large group)..and many other groups......so it is possible..and I hope it happens.

Did you just imply that a black man must be either a Gansta or an Uncle Tom? Assimilated? Maybe America isn't ready.

I don't think this is the right time. If our issues were mainly domestic and we weren't in a war, I think a woman, and/or black could get in, but I don't believe america will vote either in at this point in history.
Its bothersome to me, cuz I am mainly democratic, but I just don't believe its the right time.

i'm trying to stay optimistic. i'd hope that people don't waste time trying to figure out what "black guy stereotype box" obama fits into. why does he have to fit someone's pre-concieved notion of what a black guy is?

the balance between domestic and international issues will stay pretty much consistent for the next many years.....I think it would be great to vote in a man who's father is a muslim.....great message to send moderate muslims. See we don't hate you cause of your religion....well the non-neo Christian right doesn't anyway. Plus some thought Bush boy was a good war time president....NOT.

    .

Sarcasm? i certainly hope so. i'm more than a little perturbed by this "Wow, he doesn't even talk like a Black dude..." bullshit. As if Blacks are all ebonics and uneducated. Uncle Tom!? i trust you know how offensive that is. What, because the man is educated and articulate he is some kind of sell out? You left out Oreo Cookie. Did you want to call him that as well? You talk as though a REAL black candidate would take the podium and say "i be runnin' for presidizzle my nizzle! Vote fo' me an' shit! Or i'll peel yo' muthafuckin; cap back, biyatch!" Beacause everybody knows thats how REAL black people talk.
    Fuck that bullshit.

You know, I'm getting a bit weary of both the left & right making Obama's ethnicity such an issue. If you agree with Obama's stance on issues, then vote for him, if not, then vote for someone else. All the other stuff is just misdirection.

Just like the minority of white people who refuse to vote for anybody who is black, there is a vocal minority of black people who refuse to vote for anyone who is "not black enough." These are the people who threw oreo cookies at Michael Steele. They are also the people who have voiced an opposition to someone who looks and speaks like Senator Obama. The race issue is a problem on more sides than just the "redneck southern white" stereotype that is nauseatingly thrown around this board.

look around and see many great black men and women and many great women. i consider the supreme court a higher office than the presidentcy.
the problem is; the qualified blacks or women are not running for the office. that's why it won't be 2008 that brings change.
