I agree, I find that offensive. I'd feel the same way if it were an anti-death penalty shirt, or some other cause that I agree with. Let the kid grow up and decide for himself what causes he wants to promote.

  • How does anyone feel about people bringing kids lets say 10 and under to a war protest or something?

i agree. although only when it comes to politics and stuff like that. i'm going to put my babies in ohio state onesies that say "i poop on michigan" or something like that. there is no letting my kids decide, they will be osu fans:)

Well obviously!!!! You have to raise them with proper values! Politics is one thing, football is something else entirely.

I think you have your teams backwards though ;)

that i'm torn on. but i think most people, regardless of whether or not their parents take them to political events, will side with their parents political views until they are old enough to really understand. so i guess i think it's okay to let them experience political rallys and protests. unless it is something that is going to get out of control and potentially dangerous.

I have much less of a problem with that. There's nothing wrong with exposing them to different ideas, and letting them see people excercising their right to free speech, but slapping a slogan on them and having them go around advertising something that they can't possibly understand is a violation of their own right to express themselves freely.

    Unless it's a "GO BLUE!" t-shirt or something :D

What about having your two 6 year olds walk with you on some march protesting whatever side in Gaza? I know it's great to expose that to them, but your sort of exploiting them also right?

If you've got them wearing t-shirts and carrying signs then yes, absolutely. If they are there because that's the family activity for today, I don't think it's any different than taking them to church.

This is a joke shirt from tshirthell.com. They have many shirts like this for kids that are just for shock value, not political in any way. I almost bought one for my baby a few months ago from their site that said, "F#ck the milk, where's the whiskey t*ts...". My wife gave a huge veto on that idea....

That would be no different from people taking their kids to a football game to cheer on one side as opposed to the other. How would they know that the kid was genetically predisposed to be a Redskins fan whilst they took him along to cheer on the Cardinals?
It's like some kind of family fascism! ;) The only solution is to keep kids in cocoons until they're old enough that they don't squeal on trains and buses, and don't walk into me on the street and then fall over and start crying like it's my fault. :D
  • Meh...the shirt makes a good point.

Using a kid to promote your political beliefs? A little weird, sure. But offensive? Come on now.

they might still be there, but a few years ago my favorite shirts were 'Are you my daddy?' and 'I hide my crack in my diaper'.

i don't see the big deal. why would something political be any different than any other kind of slogan, like a band or anything else. you're still projecting yourself on your spawn. :)
