Should Halloween Celebrations be Banned at Schools?

BetterThanYou wrote:that reminds me of my job. a few months ago they made an announcement that as of january 1st the entire property will be smoke-free. no more smoking out behind the building, no more smoking at the picnic tables scattered around the grounds, no more smoking out back by the ponds, and even no more smoking if you're sitting in your car in the parking lot. the company said they made this decision because they cared about their employees health. a co-worker went to HR to discuss this. she said if the company was so concerned with our health they should eliminate all soda, chips, and candy from the vending machines, and make sure the cafeteria stops selling fatty foods. the company responded with "well, that's just rediculous. we can't do that."
That really takes the cake! I can't believe they won't even let you smoke in your car. That being said I don't think you should take Halloween out of schools. If you don't want your kid to participate then don't let them participate. I hate that everything is becoming so sterilized that we can't even do fun things anymore. What a shame!"I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on"

mammasan wrote:I saw we ban every holiday from our schools. Ban Thanksgiving, Columbus Day, Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, etc… Completely sterilize our schools and make them devoid of any fun and excitement. I mean god forbid our children celebrate Halloween and offended the Evangilical child in the class or celebrate Christmas and offend the athiest child. Since we are going to be so ridiculously overboard PC we should just ban everything.
Ya see, that school is following a far left way of thinking.
It will only get worse in Obama gets elected.Get em a Body Bag Yeeeeeaaaaa!

ANYONE IN HERE WHO WROTE THAT ITS CRAZY TO BAN HALLOWEEN LISTEN UP!!!!!!
That is the mindset of the far left secular progressive movement. If Obama gets elected it will only get worse. You voting for him supports this way of thinking. The democratic party today is way way different then it was when Clinton was president. He was actually a good one.

This just makes me glad I grew up in the 80's. Halloween was the best school function. We'd have like a 3 day carnival with candy and toys, it was awesome!
This whole PC holiday bullshit is tiresome. Makes me want to home school my kids when I have em'.NERDS!0 -
JaneNY wrote:Helen, some locations only have one school, and people might not have thought that far ahead when they moved somewhere. Maybe people have lived in a location for quite some, but did not have children. The thing is, Halloween is a grey area; in fact there are Christian sects that do not believe in celebrating Halloween either. Again, it is a tricky question.
Halloween is an innocent holiday... very few kids actually know what it means anyway. The Astoria??? Orgazmic!

Certainly if possible; but as I said, people might have moved somewhere long before they have children. Its all easier said than done sometimes; jobs can be hard to come by so someone might have to move where the job is to put food on the table.R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

Heineken Helen wrote:Again though... normal people just don't expect everything around them to change FOR them just cos circumstances mean they can't change. You fit into your surroundings. Kicking up a storm won't make life easier for you OR your kid.
Fine Helen. I don't believe I said anything about kicking up a storm in my previous posts if you look back at them. I was attempting to show understanding toward people in a difficult situation. Maybe we just look at life differently and will have to agree to disagree. I believe in trying to be inclusive, and you seem to believe that people should just fit in. I accept that that's what you believe but I disagree.R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

So yeh, we're just coming from different backgrounds on this. It's something that really irritates me though. The Astoria??? Orgazmic!

This is silly taking the fun from the majority of kids. I understand that the minority of kids that do not celebrate need a voice. Why not take one teacher or however many they need for a ratio of teachers to kids and place them in a seperate classroom and they can continue to do classwork or perhaps some sort of fun thing they are allowed to do. That way the kids who do not celebrate, do not have to and the kids that do get to still have the fun.96 Randall's Island II

so, in order to sort this out, let's punish them all
it makes NO sense!

Not really punishing the minority they do not or cannot participate (do to their own reasons) right.96 Randall's Island II
