A friend sent this to me this a.m. and pertains to Safety and Awareness.

I felt it is important enough to share this information. If you scroll down the page, you will notice a fox news link...

Every Halloween, we are subjected to worries about our children receiving laced candy. Here's the latest version.

Candy????

Thank YOU, brother, NT.

  • The fundamental problem i have with this, and with ALL "it could be laced" arguments used in relation to drugs is this: WHO THE HELL GIVES AWAY DRUGS?

    Seriously?

Everytime i hear someone tell me they don't smoke pot because they are afraid of getting a joint laced with cocaine, i hit my forehead.

DUDE, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT!

    I mean who is like,
"Yo! I got this joint to sell you for $15.
I mean, i'm losing money because i laced it with $20 worth of the yay, but here, take it for $15."

    ???

Who the fuck is GIVING AWAY crystal meth to kids ?

    WHY?

    ???

This is like that whole DARE scare back when i was a kid.
"Parents, don't let your children accept stickers from strangers. Don't let them lick them. Especially ones that are disney stickers."

WHO GIVES AWAY ACID TO CHILDREN?

There are enough risks involved with the drug trade, and MAKING money, much less GIVING drugs away, and attempting murder on children.

    ???

If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?
  • Thanks. That's real messed up.

I wonder what the reason is for giving it to kids...
Are the dealers doing it to try and get them addicted at a young age or are they just awful beings doing it to hurt kids?

Either way its incredibly fucked up.

I share similiar viewpoints, but codependency is codependency...

In the same way, recruiters try to reach younger minds, so will the monger...

    Peace drifting by the storm...

Thanks for all that you do and your commitments...

It's better to be aware than be amongst the oblivion...

And tatooed you too??? How's 'bout some burn marks on your skin, from parents who used you to play "chicken" while frying...? Or maybe being a woman in your thirties with burn marks all over your body because your parents hallucinated the package in a child-carrier was a trash that needed to be tossed into a fire?????

    I think not...

And, there are many sick schmucks out there who will try to turn kids on...

    peace...

again, it's better to be aware...

    I love ya jammers..

Thought it was fairly clear that I was being ironic--jokes are still okay, yes?
(if it wasn't clear and i've inadvertantly stumbled on to some raw spot, i do apologize.)

The actual point was that we've been facing the same scary stories in the news every year for as long as I can remember, but no one actually ever dies from this kind of thing. Parents should still be vigilant and should be teaching their children common sense even though it's not likely.
  • There have been stories around since the '60's of this that or the other drug being given to kids, the specific stories always turn out to be wrong (as snopes.com points out), and like someone else pointed out, who's going to give little kids (who don't have lots of money) drugs that are worth lots of money? Kids injest some of whatever their parents have in the house sometimes, but that's different. I don't think anyone could do anything to flavor meth anyway- all of the meth I've ever smelled has been pretty vile. All of my in-laws have used it at one time or another, I suppose I could call a few of them up and ask, but that seems really unlikely.

No one is more likely to harm a kid, in any way, than their own parents and family- parents and family account for the majority of the physical, emotional, psychological and sexual abuse that kids have to worry about, as well as most of the murders of small children (with teenagers it gets a little different). Those are scary facts, and hard to digest, so we cling desperately to stories like this, stories that say that the outside world and strangers are what kids, and parents, need to be afraid of. And in doing so, we just put our heads back into the sand.

HUmor and jokes are great, especially coming from someone who is witty and intelligent.

Would you like to be creeped out? You know that guy O'Bryan in the story who fed the poisoned pixie stix to his kids in Houston? I DELIVERED NEWSPAPERS to that guy when I was a kid because he was on my paper route. He lived on a street named Bolsover, and I used to go to his door to collect money once a month for the papers.

Statistically, we all know people who meet the DSM guidlines for being pedophiles, we all are likely to know someone who abuses their intimate partner... statistically we all know all sorts of people who do terribly unsavory things, because some of these things are so common in our culture. It's one thing to know that you know, in the abstract. But it always is unnerving when you know which person it is who has done whatever.
