I am aware that many here are not from my beloved state, but please remember that public action always sets a precedence for somebody else in another land...thank you for your help.
3. STATE PARKS UPDATE. All segments of the community are coming together to express our separate and collective outrage at the Governor's proposal to close 48 of California's State Parks and State Beaches, including both Clear Lake State Park and Anderson Marsh. The Board of Supervisors has issued a strong objection, a number of protest letters have already been delivered (to see a sampling, and to get further information about faxing or mailing your own letter, visit http://redwood.sierraclub.org/lake/stateparks.htm, and a petition to the governor is circulating at many venues throughout the county.
Please add your name, whether or not you have also sent a letter or made a phone call (916 445-2841): although no firm signing deadline has been set yet, the expectation is that a delegation will go to Sacramento to hand-deliver the petition sometime early in March.
Environment California is also circulating a petition objecting to the closure of ANY state parks, with close to 20,000 signatures to date.

i will look around later and find more about this on the local level. a colleague sent this to me, and i felt it is important to get a word out..
if this happens in cali, then you can resta assure, that a precedent will be set for other states.
personally feel that it's yet another way to decieve people...by not allowing priveledged access to nature, etc.
basically, the op's may want the mainstream to have limited access and the elite to have complete access...(my speculation)
* i might mention that in lake Berryessa, a park refuge here in the napa valley, people are already being subjected to proceedings to move off their property by use of eminant domain...some of these folks have owned business's for over 50 years and this last year, the news of this reform was leaked to local papers..
a derivitive of nature.

here's a bit on the Berryessa stuff; there's a ton on google..
no, no, no, it is future generations who will give thanks for our concerns.
but i am glad to be of some sort of assistance to our Mother...earth, that is..
