What happens when there is no water???

When provided with continuous nourishment, trees, like people, grow complacent.

Tree-ring scientists use the word to describe trees like those on the floor of the Colorado River Valley, whose roots tap into thick reservoirs of moist soil. Complacent trees aren't much use for learning about climate history, because they pack on wide new rings of wood even in dry years. To find trees that feel the same climatic pulses as the river, trees whose rings widen and narrow from year to year with the river itself, scientists have to climb up the steep, rocky slopes above the valley and look for gnarled, ugly trees, the kind that loggers ignore. For some reason such "sensitive" trees seem to live longer than the complacent ones. "Maybe you can get too much of a good thing," says Dave Meko

Water wars!!! Wooohooo!!! Along with oil wars...futures so bright, I gotta wear shades.

    No water=extinction for all.

Read in the paper today, that the U.S. state of Georgia is trying to have its border with Tennessee re-drawn where it can lay claim to water in the Tennessee River. Atlanta is going to drain three of the states bordering Georgia (Alabama, Florida and Tennessee, if it gets its way) of a lot of "shared" water.

I read predictions about water wars back in 2005, by Stan Goff....

I noticed at my local water company a new sign on the tower stating something like this: "Anyone caught tampering with this faciltiy will be subjected to federal prosecution".... Ah, the Homeland security, a fresh new wave...

I think this means that people who own individual water rights are in for trouble...

Those signs have more to do with 9/11/2001 than the future.....National Geographic has talking about water and its coming scarcity in the early 1990s.

what hapapens when there is no water?

well, I read an article today about NASA possibly in the works of preparing the moon and Mars for humankind so we could form colonies there in the far off future and what not. so maybe that's an option and not just science fiction anymore. wouldn't it be weird if the star wars saga really did come true hundreds of years from now--then that would make George Lucas like a Nostradamus of sorts, right?

well that's my 2 cents anyway. Hopefully earth won't dry up and die before then. :)
The problem with either the moon or Mars is that we would have to take our water with us to both places.

Actually I read an article in an engineering journal awhile back about how they take care of that on the international space station. Since storage space is a huge issue on the ISS, bringing up fresh water requires a ton of energy and dumping water out into space can actually cause problems they actually manage to recycle almost all of their waste water (including human waste and humidity in the air caused by breathing) and reuse it as drinking and washing water.

I don't think "running out" of water will be a problem. I think people are just going to have to decide how much they want to pay for water. I mean if droughts get bad enough is every big costal city could build a desalinization plant, but the question is, are people going to want to pay for it, when water has typically been free or at least almost free.

Well the book that inspired Do the Evolution, Ishmael, pretty much had the same theme that sometimes the herd needs thinning in times of scarcity and the herd will thrive in times of abundance and that's how evolution occurs out so I guess you think the song and the book that helped inspire Yield is ignorant. ;)
