should there be another VFC tour?

edited November 2007 in A Moving Train
not necissarily pearl jam but in general.

I think they'd be stupid not to do it again. Granted, we were unsuccessful at overturning Bush and the right wing extremists, but when you get in a fight you should get back up even if your nose is bloodied.

They probably registered a lot of people to vote. There was a lot of great discussion abound even with people I didn't agree with.

I read somewhere that on average the gigs across the board were 70% sold out. so on a financial level alone it makes sense.

I think it would truly be a defeat if they don't do it.

thoughts?

I took in a VFC show and as a political event I thought it sucked. It wasn't really vote for change as much as it was vote Democrat. I think the Rock The Vote idea is much better, getting people to vote and involved is more important to democracy than getting them to vote Democrat.

unfortunately a two party system is what we are stuck with so if a change is proposed there's realisticly only one other choice. The opposite.

hopefully, if Gulliani gets the nom, true conservatives will follow through on their promise to run a third candidate.

agree fully. There is no choice but to vote for change this election; but a get out and vote drive with great music etc... would be great.

Unless Pearl Jam is going to play, I don't really care. I didn't mind the VFC stuff at the show, but I've been getting letters from Hillary and Ted Kennedy ever since!

I hope they do run with a third candidate if Giuliani gets the nod from the repubs. I just don't know who that would be. Granted no one in the race right now would say they'd run; but it could be interesting. If they run giuliani we may for the first time have a real 3 way fight for the presidency.

  • I sent a letter to 10 Club asking them to try to get the band involved with something like putting out political ads for congressional candidacy -- except use the airtime to voice their concern about the fairness of the electoral process.

For those who havent seen it, Hacking Democracy is a downright disturbing HBO Documentary about corruption in the election process.

I THINK "VOTE FOR CHANGE" IS A STUPID IDEA, IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR FAIR \ HONEST AND TRANSPARENT ELECTIONS FIRST!

What is the fucking point of voting if "they" just commit fraud and ignore your vote !?!

Sadly, i got no response from 10 club.
Not even a "we will pass it on" or "thanks for your suggestion" ...

If the same big wig musicians (REM, U2, Bruce, Neil, PJ, Dave) got involved with something like this, it would be great.

As a political candidate you are allowed, BY FEDERAL LAW, equal air time at cheap cheap rates ... all you need is like 1000 petitions to become a candidate, and then you have to pay like $7k or some such to get a good bit of local airtime.

If you could duplicate that all across the US, with funds raised by band fanclubs doing raffles and such, and get signatures from those boards ... then PUT THE MUSICIANS ON THE ADS and bring PUBLIC AWARENESS to the problems with the process,

THAT WOULD BE MORE EFFECTIVE than this stupid "vote for change" crap, which is really not too valuable, imho.

    It's preaching to the choir.

    :(

I don't care what they call it as long as PJ is playing it.

The only problem is... where is the 'Change'? It'll basically gonna be a 'Vote For The Same Shit Sandwich We've Been Eating For Decades' Tour.

History lesson on the election of 1912, it was Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Howard Taft. Though the electoral vote won't show it the percentage differences between them were very close for three well known candidates. It was 41.8%, 27.4%, and 23.2% respectively.
