the poor fight the wars, always have.

during the american revolution entire regiments rebelled, as the officers had the fine clothes and food while the common soldier had no boots half the time. George Washington came down on them pretty hard, executing some of them.

I come from an affluent family, and I joined the Army and fought in a war.

I'm not an exception either, so how do you explain that?

    you are an exception.

Are you talking about the economic status of volunteers prior to their enlistment?

Are you talking about their income during their period of service?

Or are you talking about the economic status of veterans?

I ask because your statement sounded like you were referring to current service members. And its pretty common knowledge that the military pays horribly for the working conditions entailed. Yet...

The vast majority of new enlistees are only 18 years old, but then again what's the average salary of a recent high school graduate with no college? Since your lazy, I'll go ahead and answer that for you, 24,900 dollars a year. But that doesn't include free housing, free food and 100% health care coverage that the military provides.

Wow, sounds like a good deal...

And I am NOT the exception, how the fuck would you know anyway?

I'M talking about soldiers without body armor, I'm talking about Humvees without armor. I'm talking about soldiers in the revolutionary war rioting in DC becasue they hadn't been paid in months, talking about soldiers in the civil war with no boots, I'M talking about the poor fighting the wars. its pretty simple.

and you should talk to vets about that "free healthcare".

actually no I didn't. I heard the story on the radion and wanted to post an article

I googled "Haliburton water troops" that's the first one I saw that was from a credible non left wing source.

the fact that they've been getting away with this shit for TWO YEARS proves my point

please tell me this is meant as sarcasm.

If you were in the army then you should know a large percentage of recruits come from middle class to lower middle class background. I was also in the army and knew guys that got food stamps because they didn't earn enough to support their families.

Few enllisted recruits are from affluent families. That's a fact. Maybe you were in a specialized branch that was chock full of well educated, rich white kids, but that would definitely make you the exception.
