i saw this last weekend and it was a phenomenal documentary. VERY interesting and fascinating viewing. the footage of her actual comment will blow your mind. it's ridiculous to think her goofy little aside caused that much controversy. it made me want to go buy all their albums just to support them, even though i hate country. the reactions were so ridiculous and made the people who took offense look like the totally worthless morons they are.

Ok, I guess I've got to check this out now. I respect the Dixie Chicks, but I've put off seeing this because I figured there would be lots of their music in it, and I really can't stand modern country music. But if the two of you like thought it was worthwhile, I'm putting it back in the Netflix queue.

i LOATHE modern country music. LOATHE it. it makes me shudder with nausea. that said, this wasn't so bad. there is quite a bit of their music, but it honestly didn't sound half bad. i think it was mostly from their latest album which, by all accounts, has more of a pop/rock edge to it anyway. and they rarely include full performances, only clips.

Rick Rubin is a God. I love it when he says Natalie seems distanced from the vocals and shee suggests he re-write them.

also, Chad from the chili peppers is in it playing drums

I had hoped ed might have popped in or referenced in some way considering PJ was kind of vocal, took shit (Denver) didn't give a shit.

the chicks laid it all on the line for what they believed, period.

I found this to be a great documentary. I've never been a fan of the Dixie Chicks, but that "Not Ready To Make Nice" song gives me the chills. It's a great song.

  • I am not huge DC fan either except for maybe one song as I can't stand country music either but I thought it was quite well done. I knew some of the backlash but had NO idea to the extreme that it was. The utter ignorance of some people was astonishing ...I guess I shouldn't really be surprised.

I'm tired of the stupidity of it all....I'm tired of the over-reactions and I'm tired of the hero labeled applied to the Chix....

When they won their awards, I thought their na-na-na-boo-boo act was childish and stupid too.

I just wish people would stop talking about the damn Dixie Chicks.

I'll make you a deal cincy. I'll say something negative about your arch enemy, the barely relavant Ted Kennedy, if you say ANYTHING positive about ANY democrat or ANY democrat issue.

Dixie chicks are patriots btw and the fact you disagree proves that point.

when's the last time you laid anything on the line for your principals?

I mean besides bringing up the 30 year old events of chapaquiddic for the upteenth time.

Dixie Chicks are patriots? Man people have really lowered their standard. ;)

They suck, their music sucks and the whole mess is so fucking childish all the way around (including the idiots that jumped all over the Chicks).

this is exactly how i feel. when i saw them perform that song on the grammys it was the first time i ever heard it and it gave me chills. i immediately taught myself how to play it on my guitar and have actually played it out a few times. i want to see this doc sometime, but i am not in the mood to be embarrassed and frustrated by the ignorance and intolerance of some of my countrymen.

I'm in the same boat with some of you; I absolutely can't listent to Country music, but I've heard great things about this documentary, and I'm all for Free Speech. Guess I'll queue it up next on my Netflix account!
  • Do any real men listen to the Dixie chicks and actually groove out....I mean cmon...

    Yeah, they are.

if you asked the DC if they'd rather not said it to avoid all the hubbub, they'd probably tell you they wished they hadn't.

It's what happened next that makes them patriots. They never went on an apologetic media blitz to try and fix it.

they stood by what they said and risked losing their careers.

kind of like the way you endlessly bash a guy who's tried to raise the minimum wage seven times but you stand by the criminals of this administration who are responsible for bankrupting this country, not to mention the deaths of hundreds of thousands of iraqis and 3000 american soldiers (and counting).

    I'm just saying.

You backed out of your deal.

I'm not standing by this administration. I've admitted I was wrong. You are right about their spending and the pointless war headed no where. I was wrong. I won't make that mistake again, and yes I feel bad for those that had to suffer because of my and others support.

Here's the thing though, Bush is standing by his beliefs despite popular opinion...is he a patriot?

You might want to add "...of the nation and it's interests" to the end of that, lest you come across as some sort of Socialist.

And, even with the added phrase, you'd be treading dangerous terrain. ;)

I guess you are right. :)

I just think you have to do something extraordinary to be a patriot.......I don't think saying what you think even though you may lose money is a good enough reason.

that is a great question. here's the best answer I can muster.

GWB was a minor player at best before he took the office and he'll basically be a glorified ranch hand after he's done. I guarentee (or at least hope) he won't have the humanitarian post pres career that Jimmy carter has and I don't really see him on a book tour or lecture circut unless somebody writes it for him and then tells him what to say.

The point is that because the Iraq war is and has been a corporate money grab, and the front has been "patriotism or else". His patriotism is a sham

    he is a false patriot.

They definitely have good energy. Not to hard on the eyes, and some balls apparently. Some of their melodic stuff is pretty interesting. Never been a fan of the country "twang" so to speak. Perhaps in another life.
