as an irish american i am aware that there are major issues between ireland and england (which is probably why my dad came to america!), but it is not something i am too concerned with or knowlegeable about (which is probably why my dad came to america!)
anyhow, i was curious if irish bands like U2 play in england, or if english bands like the rolling stones play in ireland.......if so ,are there protestors or anything like that? someone fill me in please

"I'll tell you what: If all I had was Pearl Jam, and I didn't have another band in the world, I would not be worried. Because in there is the essence of making great music. You don't have to use it all at once, but it's there." - Neil Young

of course they do!!!
as for the protestors partwhy would anyone from Ireland protest against The Rolling Stones?!?!?!?!?
i'm hoping the irish people can answer but i'd be aghast if any of them said that people protested against British bands
and U2 and The Pogues to name but 2, have been practically welcomed in the UK as the great bands they are...
McCartney even had a song called "give Ireland back to the Irish"
anyhoo.. i've always thought music could transcend the political divide...oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

Of course English people and Irish people get along just fine. Some people have a little bit resentment but for the most part it doesn't affect daily life. It's certainly not an issue to the point where people don't want either nationality in the country.Although there are a few morons making a big deal about the English Rugby team playing in Croke Park this week(the last time the English were there in 1920 there was a massacre)it's really not all different from America and Canada's relationship. In fact I'm quite shocked that anyone thought it was that bad here nowadays. It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

It makes me laugh when I hear that the Irish and the English fought because they're from such similar stock. It's like the Jews and the Muslims fighting in Palestine. They're all the same!
People love to find differences to fight over. All I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

The Irish are nothing more than a bunch of drunken fools! I've seen movies that depict exactly who they are!"Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

Ignoring the two previous posts  in fact thumbingmyway WOULD be the first person I put on my ignore list
only he does NOT merit that honour.
Anyway, The stones are actually rumoured to be playing Slane in August. They've played here before, all the big bands of any nationality play here... and nobody gives a fuck where they're from. Normal English people actually come here all the time and have a brilliant time in the pubs drinking with the Irish people. We play England in rugby EVERY year and there's never any trouble (hopefully this year won't be the exception - do a google news search on 'Croke Park' and you may learn a bit about big stuff happening this weekend). Yes there will be the odd one or two ignorant fucks like you have in every country but they certainly do not represent the country as a whole.

The Pogues are a London-Irish band. There's a BIG Irish population in London. As for the English welcoming U2 - Sure, there's a massive U2 fan base in England, as there is everywhere, despite U2 having ripped of Echo and The Bunnymen's sound and image.0 -

So you get your intelligence from watching movies? Sad!
I guess that means Americans are nothing but gangstas and cowboys then? Oh and the 40 million Irish Americans are foolish drunken gangstas and cowboys."...believe in lies...to get by...it's divine...whoa...oh, you know what its like..."0 -

And I still think Echo and The Bunnymen are better. U2 still haven't made an album that comes close to either Crocodiles or Heaven Up Here.0
