Also, with the value of the dollar going in the shitter, even a decline in nominal gas prices will be an increase in real gas prices (if gas prices fall 3% but the value of the dollar falls 5% gas has effectively gone up 2%). So don't get your hopes up, either move somewhere you don't need a car or get a civic...

truth right here.
also remember, the further stocks slide, and deeper the economy passes in to the throws of recession, the more money the Fed will throw at it.
This will cause the value of the dollar to continue its tumble.
Like Silver said, the price of oil, as related to supply and demand may pull back, but the price in relation to the dollar will go up up and away.
I can't read that article at work, but if it is talking about the fact that oil per barrell slid from 110ish to 106ish today, i wouldn't get ANY hope that this more than a very very very short term pullback.
Oil will be back up at 110 by next week, nearly guaranteed.
Hell it may happen tomorrow, depending on exactly just how much the Fed cuts the rate in its FOMC meeting in the morning.
We shall see.
The dollar is at 71.2 on the dollar index right now,
last october i called it at 69 by end of summer ... look for it to be there by end of next month at this rate, and look for it near 59 by Fall.
If that really does happen, we are pretty much fucked.
:(
If I opened it now would you not understand?
well im stuck in suburban hell because of my job, but maybe i can find a cheap used civic.
i'll be in NOLA on Wednesday!
First stop, 8am: PJs, Maple St - iced coffee and coissaint
2nd stop: russell's po-boys - lunch. roast beef. dressed.
3rd & 4th stop: The Magic Mushroom & Jim Russell Records
5th - 8th stop: D.B.A and the rest of the strip on Frenchmen
Final stop: camellia grill ... greasy ass double burger, chocolate freeze, with ice cream.
Next day, wake up, wash repeat.
I could live on that schedule.
seriously.
mmm... maybe insert a pricey but yummy meal at Jacque Imo's and beer at Maple Leaf while waiting in line.

Well if you like the recession now, just hold on! It's only going to get better! You will soon get to see layoffs! Some might even hit your own family! You'll have a ring-side seat as your friends file for bankruptcy! And if you're lucky enough, you'll actually get to see your inheritance destroyed by crashing stocks due to a sub-prime mess that only a fucking retarded Texan could oversee!
All this and more on the next edition of "The Economy is Fucked and No One Can Do The Math!"
heh i wish i was back there, I go to the Maple Leaf all the time, but its an easy town to get fat! right now i'm in boring ass Houston. Why do people live where there are so few bars?

nah, most of my family is broke already, except the ones who get by in the oil fields (the deep south version of the factory, only with worse pay and less safety). The last recession didnt have much impact (and the last boom as well), i doubt this one will either.
I own a fit, damn nice car. The only thing is if anyone is interested in it take a really long test drive, because for me at least the driving position took a couple of months to really get used to.
I love my Fitty...I have the 5-speed sport model...it rides like a go-kart..
I haven't taken a long trip yet, but it's comfortable enough...I wish they had a dead pedal...I may get an aftermarket one...I'm going to snag an armrest, too...
I'm getting 34+ miles a gallon in the city...
have you been to http://www.fitfreak.net/ ?
The only thing I don't really like is that I would like it if the seat could go back like maybe 4 more inches. I don't really like driving and having to keep my leg bent. I would prefer it if I could go back farther and keep it fully extended (like when I drove my 95 civic), although then I might not be able to reach the steering wheel. But I have pretty much gotten used to it, the car takes bumps pretty hard to but it is an$18,000 car with an insane amount of standard features so you can't have everything.
I hear you about the ride...I feel every bump...I kinda like it, though...
I've always had smaller vehicles, so the bent knee thing is something I've always dealt with....
and yes, that car is hooked up with everything one needs...
here's mine...

nice looking car, but too small. it's myself, my wife, and our 2 kids. if we go anywhere, we need more room than the honda fit allows. currently, i'm driving an '02 ford focus wagon. i hated it when we first got it, but slowly fell in love with the room in the back. we still have a couple years left of payments, and when it's all paid we're going to get another car...we just aren't sure if we're going to trade the focus in or not. if we don't trade it in, then we can always go with a smaller car for back and forth between work and home, going to the store, local bullshit, and use the focus for weekend (or longer) trips.

my landlord just recently bought a prius and has driven it from syracuse, ny to florida and back about 3 times in the last 4 months. he says the mileage is great and the ride is a lot smoother than he thought it would be.
