All of the House of Representatives come up for re-election every two years. Every two years, 1/3 of the Senate comes up for re-election. (Senators have 6 year terms.)
And there are state and local officials on the ballot as well. But mid-term elections refers to the national elections.
doesn't feel that way right now. That's the hopeful
idea . . . Hope didn't get much applause . . .

everyone loves the Wiki
senators and congressman stay in office longer then the president. when they say mid-term election. it means in the "middle" of the presidents term
Senators, with 6-year terms, do stay in office longer than the president. Representatives have 2-year terms and must get re-elected to stay in office for an entire presidential term.
