Medical reports confirm Kandhmal nun raped

There seems to be no end to the Kandhmal horror story as disturbing new facts are emerging from Orissa's communal flashpoint.

NDTV has now got confirmation that a nun was raped on August 25, two days after the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Laxmanand Saraswati and the entire district was on fire and Christians were attacked.

However, the rape has not been officially confirmed yet. (Watch)

Sources have told NDTV that the medical examination of the nun conducted the same night at the Baliguda Hospital by two lady doctors confirmed rape.

Although the medical report was ready a day after the assault, the police did not collect it, apparently because they didn't have time.

The report was collected by the police just two days ago and perhaps shows how lightly the case was treated by them.

According to eyewitnesses, the mob took the nun and Father Chellam to a house where they were kept for several hours before the police rescued them. It was here that the nun was raped by a man who was part of the mob.

excuse me, but this nun was raped by MEN. the fact that they were hindu nationalists is beside the point.
rape is not a political action but a crime of violence.

I completely understand and agree that rape is an act of violence. I don't follow the premise that an act must be either political or violent, though. Why can't this event be a politically motivated violent act?

thats because you odnt know the background of the story.

hindu nationalists have a lot of beef against christian missionaries and do not want the govt of indian to allow missionaries to operate in india. to get their message across they variously murder missionaries, rape nuns or raze churches.

if the men raped the nun out of lust, then they had far better (attractive) choice of potential victims.

this rape was an e-mail to the vatican.

i dont need to know the background of the story. they may well be using it as a political statement but that doesnt change the fact that at the base of it, rape is always a crime of violence.

  • yes it is. but the cause of this act of violence was not because the nun was the sexy sultry type men cant resist. its because she was a nun and because this will send a clear message the indian govt and to the vatican.

ALL types of women get raped. even babies get raped. one does not have to be a sexy sultry type to ahve thsi act of violence happen to them. its a power thing not an attraction thing. i thoght people knew this.

the nun was raped primarily cause she was a women and they knew they could. are they raping priests? if not, why not? priests are just as representative of the church as nuns are. i imagine murdering a nun would cause the same outrage. it surely would with me.

and why arent they raping priests? why arent they just murdering nuns?

ill tell you why. cause theyre men, to men the thought of any type of sex with another man is repulsive. so using sex as a weapon against other men is not seen as an option generally speaking. so what do we have left... sex as a weapon against women used by MEN.

my thinking is fine on this. the poltiical excuse for the raping of women(or anyone else for that matter) is just that. an EXCUSE.

First off, rape is not sex, it's FORCE sex.
...and talk about a double standard opinion. How do you explain female school teachers who molest and rape their boy students?

This wasn't a crime of lust, there was a motivating factor behind this. As sick and repulsive as it was, she wasn't raped because she was a woman alone. She was raped because she was a nun.

I'm not an expert on the psychology of sex crimes but to directly say that there were no motivate behind this crime is naive in my opinion.

i said sex is the weapon. which to me figures into the equation some level of violence. and if nothing else violent is defined by force.
quite honestly i didnt think i had to state that rape is forced sex considering by definition thats what it is. next time i shall to remember to state the obvious and what to me and perhaps to others i imagine, was self explanatory.

and where did i say there was no motivation behind this crime? what i said was these men were using their politics as an excuse.

why murder when only a rape will get the message across?

this is where we differ in our opinion.
... when only rape will get the message across??? say it again slowly.
...when only rape will get the message across. any violent protest act, as you say this is, negates the message its trying to convey. it does not bring sympathy to your cause. it merely brings to attention to the extreme lack of respect you show to the harmless and the violation of human rights that accompanies that.

i disagree. they saw this as an opportunity. i know many protestors and not one of them would consider using rape as a form of protest. why not, if it will bring attention to their cause? these men were using their politics as an excuse to rape. not as an excuse to get 'a sexual message across'. but simply to rape.

does everyone opposed to the presence of christianity protest by raping nuns? is this obscene act sanctioned by all those who oppose to the christians?

to the perpetrator of the violent act, it does not negate the message. the taliban killed daniel pearlstein not because they thought that it would negate the message but because they thought it will get the message across.
