Because you missed the threads on this already?

It's been covered at length, and the concluision is that there is no proof in either direction that's conclusive. It is an endless, circular argument no matter how much you think you know, or can prove. It goes way beyond what you can even think to prove, or hope to think of proving? Get it?

When will scientists, who previously thought the world was flat but now realize it's not, come to accept the existance of God. Just like they cam eto accept the world's shape.

Something that is technically flat, is round, because it's flat only relative to the earth, which is round. So theoretically the earth is also flat, if it's the standard for flat.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

Thanks. Close the thread please. There is no room for further discussion, since others have already discussed it.

In fact....the entire message board should be shut down, because everything regarding Pearl Jam has already been discussed at least once.

Regarding the morally vacuous UN, it was once said:

"If Algeria introduced a resolution declaring that the earth was flat and that Israel had flattened it, it would pass ..."
    -Abba Eban

And it bears mention that the UN bans only one country from sitting on its cherished committes - Israel. Hmmmm, sounds like real apartheid to me and not the imagined slur made by Israel's foes.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in Israel as racist as Kofi Annan.
  • this thread is fucking retarded, but i find it funny that the person who believes in nothing is supposed to prove it.

The person who believes that God does not exist is not a person who believes in nothing. He is a person who believes that God cannot exist.
it's pretty easy really...where's your proof of god? oh, this book, i see.

    I don't believe in God.

i pity the godless like i pity the tramp in the street.

to be an athiest is to have no self respect. u think ur brain power is a cause of nature. think to urselves on moment, one by one. is it possible that someone with ur complex thoughts and self awareness is just a mistake?

if you find a watch on an uninhabited island... you would say someone must have put it there. for a watch is too complex a mechanism to have just got there by chance. the watch must have had a designers, and a manufacturer, as its mechanisms are complex, and need to be exact for it to work.

think of yourself, and compare yourself with a watch. you must think you are very simple people

I don't think we were just 'put here by mistake'.

I think we were monkeys that evolved into humans over millions of years.

But, you can stick with your watch on an island theory. You are the type of person that needs to have an answer to every question. In fact, that's what religion is. An answer that someone came up with, because the question of "why and how did we get here" is too complex.

You may pity whomever you like. Don't be surprised if many of us "godless" consider your pity to be irrelevant.

A mistake? No. An act of nature? Yes.

I would say so because watches are made by men, not by islands.
think of yourself, and compare yourself with a watch. you must think you are very simple people

I think I'm far better than a watch.

You told me that I missed the previous threads on this, it's been covered at length, and there was a conclusion.

To me, that means that I started a topic that's been beaten to death and we should move on to the next topic.

This is why I think the Matrix could be real. :D It is how your mind has been conditioned to react that you assumed we should conclude all thought process.

The threads can be anything (the title is generic enough) and all threads on MT usually become anyways. :D

Scientists never thought the world is flat.
How about leeches could cure a cold. Science has told us lots that has been complete and utter nonsense. It will continue to do so. It is getting more accurate at some things though.

You could hardly call any of that science though. Science was more just a bunch of anecdotal observations and superstition. Wouldn't you agree that science is much different now? Its a far too simplistic and obviously flawed example.

And 500 hundred years from now they'll look back and say the same about our current science. So knowing that does that mean "You could hardly call any of that science."

It wasn't a reprimand. It was just a previously experienced comment on the matter.

I wasn't implying that you give up, and not try find out for yourself.

No, the scientific method was developed by Aristotle. It was never a bunch of anecdotes. Leeches was not science, medicine at the time of leeches wasn't science. Although leeches are used in medicine today.

Science generally builds on itself Newton's theories were expanded by Einstein, but it certainly doesn't void them into nonsense.

I'm not so sure about that. We spend millions of dollars, years of training and practice, and we've had a TON of breakthroughs in technology, medicine, and a much clearer picture of the natural world. I'm not saying that in the future they won't shake their heads at some things we've done or thought, but I think its undeniable that science plays a way bigger part in everyday life than it did back then when science was practiced by a very few people and based in belief rather than tested hypothesis.

You sound like the Catholic Church regarding infallability of the Pope. So because it was bad science you don't think it should count as science.

Right, but the majority of science during the medieval times and even until more recently was based on belief and was much more philisophical in nature. The scientific theory may have existed but how often applied?

So based on this and a lack of accurate climate model, we only then have an unproven hypothesis regarding climate change.

No, I have plenty of self respect, thank you very much.

How does believing in a god make you respect yourself anymore? Surely being an atheist means having no respect for the concept of god?
Unless every Catholic believes that he/she is god (hint: they don't), your point is invalid...

There is an accurate climate model. I find the hostility to such notions puzzling. Afterall, these folks also split an atom and put a man on the moon.
