Who do you think will win the v.p. debate?

I think Biden will win it on actual knowledge, but unfortunately he gets so verbose and tends to talk above the average americans head. Like in his interview with Katie Couric, he kept using words like "homogeneous" which probably went over the heads of a good amount of Americans. Palin, on the other hand, was once again pretty scary and had absolutely no answer Katie's question of "what supreme court ruling do you think was wrongly decided".

I know people think she is a very accomplished debater, but it's hard to believe she's going to get thru 90 minutes of the v.p. debate unscathed.

I'm not sure. They both have quite enough room and enough rope to hang themselves. It's a question of who finds the highest tree first.

Honestly, i don't think "who will win" is the real question.

i think the real question is whether or not Palin will actually stick around for the full 90 minutes. i wouldn't be surprised to see McCain yank her off the stage with one of those long canes, like you see in cartoons.

Is Biden even still alive? I haven't heard one thing from or about him since the convention. Compare that to the daily deluge about Palin and I'm wondering if he'll even show up.

Palin. The bar's been set so low for her that all she has to do is show up and she's won.

I totally agree. Give her a few good one liners like at the convention and she will win the neo-cons over again.

The funny thing is Biden has far more gaffes' per interview then Palin. Yet, no one cares. I know there is a lot of negativity from the media around Palin, but I think they could be a bit more negative around Biden. The truth is... no one cares about Biden. He's not news. Palin is where the news is.

As to the original topic, I think Palin will win the debate, but regardless of how she 'really' does, the media will spin any misstep she takes and concentrate on that. Meanwhile, watch the amount of Biden missteps. See if there's legit fair coverage on them relative to Palin's afterwards. I don't think there will be. I think the coverage from the media afterwards will be: where did Palin mess up? And if it's hard for them to find more than one misstep, just concentrate on the one over and over again. THey will forget Biden is even there unless there's an exchange between him and Palin.

she'll win the debate only to people who don't care about her actually answering questions ... she didn't answer any in her alaskan governor debates - because she didn't even know that!!

Yes, Biden sticks his foot in his mouth on a regular basis... but for the most part he does on anecdotal stuff like Roosevelt on TV or crap like that. But it is obvious that he knows policy, and has an understanding of issues. In the primary debates this year he did very well at keeping his answers simple and direct.

Palin on the other hand gets easily flustered, and turns into a repetitive talking point robot, and then tries to get by on charm.

In a 5 minute interview, she can get away with these things a bit more, but in a 90 minute debate, she HAS to answer questions and show some knowledge of the issues to put aside any doubts about her.

She will smile nicely and throw a lot of digs at Obama, which will keep the conservative crowd content, but I can't see how she won't be a disaster to anyone actually paying attention to her answers.

Palin gets more media attention than Biden in good and bad ways. I didn't hear anyone complaining after the convention when the media was fawning over her speech. She has brought scrutiny on herself by screwing up every real interview she's done.

Biden on the otherhand is more of an even-keeled candidate. He's not really going to garner much attention, so he won't really hurt Obama, but he won't really help him either.

You can't have the best of both worlds. Again, I doubt I'll see anyone on here complaining about Palin getting too much attention from the media if she does well tonight.

  • I wonder how much of a broadcasting delay thing thing is going to have?

probably something in the minutes range I bet...or just enough time to pull her offstage for a quick brainwash huddle without noticeably messing up her hair or makeup...

Someone said where's a bear going to shit tonight? That's hilarious. Biden is probably gonna destroy Palin. Hopefully it will be the dagger for the McCain campaign.

No, ya know what will happen? McCain will go up and hold her hand through to the end of the debate and speak for her so she won't have to. Now, that would be funny.

Are you serious you think most americans don't know the meaning of "homogeneous"

What are you talking about? Biden has given over 100 interviews since then, Palin has done 5? Palin is a big media event when she speaks because at first she was such a big hit and now she's such a big miss (she reads all news sources, you know), and Biden's just doing his job.

Unfortunately, yes, I don't think a lot of people know what it means. I even asked a few people and they had not a clue. But I still don't think we deserve Palin/McCain because of it.
