The University of Saskatchewan...although me and three dudes lived together and that stat. did prove right for one of my buddies...so who knows....just stating that this could be BS...

I was a college student and I know tonnes of others that went to college...if students were asked directly in a poll...I would bet that some lied to be "funny"...as for 4% for marijuana...I would say of all the people I hung around with at some point or time in college (which is a lot!)...I would say 80-85% smoked pot at some time.....

I've never been to college but 80% is about right for the general public too. I'd say anywhere from 30 - 50% are regular users. Or it could just be the crowds I kick it with.

We've created a culture where the solution to every problem is to pop a pill, and we're shocked .... simply SHOCKED!!!! ... that kids are popping pills in unprecedented numbers.

Parents start stressing before the kid is even born about whether or not he'll get into the "right" preschool. Kids don't get to be kids ... they don't get to go outside and run around like maniacs, play games with their friends where they make up the rules and resolve any conflicts themselves. No more pickup baseball games, all their time is spent in structured activities supervised by adults. By junior high they're stressing about their grades, worried that they won't get into the "right" college, or won't qualify for enough scholarship money to go to college at all. It's not enough anymore for the high achievers to ace a full course load of AP classes ... they also must have a job and at least 4 extracurriculars at all times so their college applications will be impressive enough.

Gee whiz, I wonder why these kids are stressed out

AMEN. Couldn't agree with you more.

Binge drinking-- eh. Almost everyone does it at some point. I feel bad for people who never stop.

Pill usage bothers me. Recreational use is one thing-- dependency is another. I have way too many friends popping pills these days, and I've been trying to get them to stop. Not so easy.

I know some successful people who drank a lot in college and quit when they entered the real world.

I don't plan on leading this inebriated lifestyle in the real world.

It did say 4% daily. Not just that only 4% ever smoked it, but that 4% smoked it everyday.

Maybe I was hanging with the wrong crowds....but I knew very few people that smoked everyday.
  • Binge drinking and drugs in college? No way. Excuse me I'm going to look for the ice is cold thread.

Ugh. I'm a student, and let me tell you, the only people who binge drink/pill pop are the stupid kids. Probably the same type of stupid kids who did it in the last generation, and the generation before, etc. By stupid I mean the kids who value their social life over grades, think college is one big party, don't go to class, have a joke major, are in frats/sororities.. etc

Point being, the cream of the crop is not affected, thus our generation won't cause any economic downfalls or anything as we enter and start leading the workforce. This is nothing new; people just need something to write about.

From my estimate, considering the "Fair Drug Policy" club (advocating that kids don't get expelled for being caught with pot) consists of maybe 10 people, out of my school of 30,000 kids (University of Maryland) I would say maybe 10% or less are regular pot users. More than 10% probably try pot once or so while there though.
